The Indoor Yard Sale is coming to the Florence Events Center on April 2. Applications to be part of the Friends of the Florence Events Center’s annual indoor sale are available for nonprof- it groups and individuals who wish to rent a booth space to display their goods. For those who do not have a garage, adequate parking or hard to find locations, this is a perfect solution to be part of Club from 1A “Every Monday, all of the kids’ names go into a cup and we draw a job and then we draw a name to assign to that job for the week. They can earn 25 club bucks a week, five club bucks a day,” Aaron explained. “It is like a real job. If they don’t show up, they don’t get paid. If they don’t do their job, or refuse to do their job, they can be let go from the job. If that happens, the job is given to someone else.” The jobs may require vacu- uming, cleaning dishes and putting away recreational equipment. A Teen Center staff member must sign off on the work before the member gets credit for the day. “It is getting to the point where the kids are helping police each other’s jobs,” Aaron said. The club has added more expensive items to the club store’s inventory and has implemented a monthly incen- tive item that the club mem- bers choose. For February, the incentive is NFL or NBA regu- lation jerseys with the player’s names on the back. Peyton Manning and Cam Newton are current favorites. Each jersey costs 200 club bucks. Aaron said one member has earned 360 club bucks. “She wants two jerseys and she knows she only needs 40 more club bucks. She said, ‘If I hadn’t spent those 10 club bucks on snacks, I would be that much closer to my goal.’ this huge sale. Single booths and double spaces are avail- able for a fee from $35 to $90 and there are discounts for nonprofit groups. Space will be available up until Thursday, March 31, at 5 p.m., for any group or individ- ual to participate in the sale. For more information, stop by the Florence Events Center office at 715 Quince St. or contact Jennifer Connor at the FEC at 541-997-1994. She is learning about budget- ing,” Aaron said. According to Aaron, how the members spend their club bucks is completely their own decision. “We are looking for a spon- sor for the store,” she said. “We estimate that $100 per month will keep the store fully stocked with good stuff. I won’t put candy, sodas or sports drinks in the club store.” In addition to the club bucks program, the Teen Center requires each member to per- form two hours of community service each week, with no club bucks incentive. Club Executive Director Chuck Trent said, “Our goal at the Boys and Girls Club is to make sure that every teen in our program is on track to graduate on time, which means we also help the school district with its graduation rate. When you have this partnership with the kids, the school and the club, that’s the best of all worlds.” In addition to learning about managing money, according to Trent, the club bucks program allows every student, regard- less of their economic situa- tion, to be able to afford the jersey, school gear or other things they want or need. “We are also creating a work ethic that is transferable as these students move on in life,” Trent said. __________ Follow Jack on Twitter @SNews_Jack.
