H OUSE CONCERT SERIES OPENS WITH TOP PIANIST FLORENCE — Kathy Parsons is kick- ing off her 2016 house concert series with special guest artist, Robin Spielberg. With more than a million recordings sold, Spielberg is one of the best-loved pianists in the U.S. With 17 albums, inclusion in more than 40 compilations and her award-win- ning autobiography (Naked on the Bench: My Adventures in Pianoland), Spielberg enchants with her music as well as her vivid stories about the inspi- ration for the pieces. Her discography includes albums of original piano solos, arrangements of American standards, original pieces for piano/ensemble, recordings for the holi- days, a CD of Americana melodies, and a CD of lullabies. Her newest recording, “Another Time, Another Place,” is a recording of original piano solos that “explore the mysteries of time.” Spielberg made her Carnegie Hall debut in a sold-out performance at the Weill Recital Hall in 1997 and has per- formed there twice since. Other memorable performances include a guest spot on a PBS television Christmas special; live performances on CBS Saturday Morning, Good Morning Arizona, Life Time Live, CBS New Orleans and a private concert for the factory workers at the Steinway and Sons historic piano factory in New York. Robin Spielberg is a celebri- ty spokesperson for the American Music Therapy Association. Her interest in music and healing grew when she wit- nessed firsthand the positive effect music had on her own baby daughter (born premature- ly) during her four-month stay in the neo-natal intensive care unit. As spokesperson, she con- ducts workshops and seminars on the centers, nursing care facilities and performing arts centers. Spielberg was the featured per- former at two of AMTA’s national conferences, performing for more than 1,300 music therapists from around the world. In 2014, she was asked to do a TEDx TALK on music and wellness (now on YouTube on the TEDx channel). Spielberg is also a founding member of the Tony-award win- ning Atlantic Theater Company. She currently resides in rural Pennsylvania with her husband and business partner, and their teenaged daughter. The concert is Feb. 4, at 7 p.m. There is a suggested donation of $15 at the door. The sale will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. A pre-sale for FOL members only will be held Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Hardback and trade paperbacks will be $1 and pocket paperbacks 50 cents. Nonfiction books will include biogra- phies, cookbooks, computer books, how- to manuals, travel, nature topics, and sci- entific topics among others. Fiction books include mystery, horror, adventure, romance, science fiction, his- torical novels and other genres. Cash, checks, credit and debit cards are accepted. All proceeds of the sale are used to sup- port the Siuslaw Public Library and its programs.
