He is survived by his wife, Linda Joyce (Backes) Chambers, of Florence; his daughter, Angela Chambers, of Cedar Falls, Iowa; step-chil- dren Michael T. Backes of Eugene and Tanya W. Backes of Sacramento, Calif.; his brothers and sisters: Debbie (and husband Leroy) Boldt, formerly Salem; Chris Chambers of Salem; Terry Jacobson of Salem; Kim (and husband Jim) Hance of Eugene; Guy Chambers, of Waterloo, Iowa; and many cousins, nieces and nephews He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Robert and Mildred Lane of Eugene; his father, Robert G. Chambers of Waterloo, Iowa; and his sister, Connie Chambers, formerly of Eugene. A celebration of his life will be held Saturday, Feb. 13, at Swisshome Evangelical Dunes City Council candidate applications due tomorrow Dunes City is seeking can- didates to fill an unexpired term on the Dunes City Council. The appointee’s term of office shall begin immediate- ly upon appointment and shall continue until the end of the year following the next general biennial election, Dec. 31, 2016. The term expires upon swearing in of new coun- cilors during the first council meeting in January 2017. Applicants must be Dunes City residents. BERNHEISEL—Gerald “Gerry” Wayne Bernheisel, 80, of Dallas, Ore., for- merly of Florence, died Jan. 3, 2016, in Dallas as a result of pancreatic cancer. Gerald He was Bernheisel born in Medford, Ore., to Elizabeth and Nye Bernheisel. Gerald graduated from Coquille High School in 1954. He married the love of his life, Charlene Vee Fellows, in 1957, and they had three children. Gerald worked in the pro- duce department for Safeway at the age of 16 in Coquille and then in Coos Bay, and then worked for United Grocers’ Cash and Carry, working up to manager of the store in Coos Bay. He retired from there after 30 years. Gerald served in the Naval Reserves for several years and enjoyed this very much. He also was a longtime member of the Elks and was an avid NRA member. He loved going to second- hand stores looking for treas- ures, fishing, hunting, going to the beach, looking at the stars and taking pictures of the clouds and all types of air- planes. Survivors include his sister, Janet Cagley; half-brother Milton Bernheisel; his chil- dren: Bruce Bernheisel, Kimberly O’Harrow and Lisa Weidman; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Gerald loved his family very much and was a great role model. He was a very special man to his family and friends and will be missed very much. Burns’s Riverside Chapel Florence Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. A cel- ebration of life will be held in early summer. Greg was born Aug. 12, 1948, to Robert Glenn Chambers and Beverly Jeannine Gregory ( L a n e ) Chambers Chambers. He was a graduate of Noti High School in Noti, Ore., and became a long-haul truck driv- er. After living in Cedar Falls, Iowa, he moved to Florence in 1993. Greg was a colorful Old Town Coffee Shop regular for many years. He brought a lot of joy and laughs to all who got to know him, and everlasting memories to all that had the fortune to meet him. Greg battled esophagus can- cer for the past five years. During that time he turned to the Swisshome Evangelical Church and with faith he was
