COM Saturday, Jan. 30 F RANKLIN TO SPEAK AT FACC The February general meeting of the Florence Area Community Coalition (FACC) will welcome Corky Franklin as its featured speak- er. Franklin is the vice-principal at Siuslaw High School. He will talk about the district’s measures to improve attendance, academic per- formance and graduation rates. The FACC’s organization of the month is Helping Hands. Attendees are invited to bring donations for Helping Hands to the meeting. Suggested items include hats, blan- kets, socks, nonperishable foods and toiletries. The meeting will be from 9 to 10:30 a.m., in the Bromley Room at the Siuslaw Public Library. L EARN ABSTRACT PAINTING Intro to Abstract Painting using acrylic, oil or watercolor will be offered by Silvia Trujillo at Florence Regional Arts Alliance (FRAA), 120 Maple St., from 1 to 5 p.m. The focus will be on composition, values, color harmony, mark making and a search for individuality. The Northwest’s coastal environment poses chal- lenges for growing and pruning, and Sedlacek will inform attendees on the how, what, when and why.
