2 A SIUSLAW NEWS ❚ WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 9, 2015 OBITUARIES GROSHENS —Beverly Ann Groshens, 72, of Florence, passed away on Nov. 30, 2015, from complica- tions of pan- creatic can- cer. She was with her hus- band and Beverly daughter. Groshens Bev was born in Lincoln, Neb., to Earl and Anna Wolvington, and grew up in Sterling, Colo. She graduated from Sterling High School in 1961, and attended Colorado State University, where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. In 1965, she obtained her bachelor of science degree in home economics. She worked at Cheyenne Light Fuel and Power for five years, and then moved to Medford, Ore., to work for Pacific Power and Light. Bev met and married the love of her life, Ed, in 1972. Daughter Brenda was born in Coos Bay in 1976. In 1977, they moved to Milwaukie, Ore., where they made their home for the next 31 years. Bev retired from Pacific Power in 1998. She and Ed moved to Florence in 2008. Bev was a passionate mem- ber of PEO, a philanthropic, educational organization dedi- cated to education opportuni- ties for women. She was extremely proud of being an active member for more than 50 years. She was active in the Presbyterian Church, and a faithful servant of The Lord. Bev also loved to cook, trav- el, spend time with family and friends, sew and knit. She knit- ted more than 130 sweaters for Guideposts Knit for Kids, a program for needy children all over the world. Bev is survived by best friend and husband, Ed; daughter Brenda (Tony) Branson; sister Marcia (Tim) Pool; nephew Josh (Stacey) Pool; niece Ginny (Dan) Cahalan; step-daughter Lisa Easter; grandson Austin Easter; stepmother Carol (Baxter) Arnold; and many other special friends and extended family. A celebration of her life will be held Saturday, Dec. 12, at 2 p.m., in Florence at the Presbyterian Church of the Siuslaw. A memorial celebration of her life will be held Saturday, Dec. 12, at 2 p.m., at the Jehovah’s Witnesses King- dom Hall here in Florence. Florence couple arrested on sex abuse charges S TAFF R EPORT Siuslaw News A Florence couple was arrested last Friday for multi- ple sex crimes against chil- dren, and local police say there may be more charges pending. Greg According Cater to the Florence Police Department, an investi- gation concerning possible inappropriate photographs involving juveniles was initiat- ed Dec. 3. The next day, upon investigating, police arrested Greg Cater, 43, and his wife Doreen, 44, of Florence. Both were taken to the Lane County Adult Corrections facility and are facing charges that include rape, sodomy, sex abuse, using a child in display of sexually explicit con- Doreen duct and Cater encouraging child sex abuse. “This investigation is ongo- ing, involving more than one victim, with possibly more charges pending,” police said Monday in a news release.
