SIUSLAW NEWS ❚ WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 2, 2015 Gallery reception to toss pillows, words Saturday The fabric of art includes inspiration, material, craft and execution. Through December, The Gallery Above Silver Lining Boutique fea- tures multidimensional fine artist Janey DiMuro, whose inspiration quite literally uses fabric to create elegant and whimsical pillows. DiMuro’s pillow art, along with her striking and provoca- tive two-dimensional artwork, has become a holiday tradition at the Silver Lining. At her reception on Saturday, from 3 to 5 p.m., DiMuro will be joined by local writer Burney Garelick whose inspiration fabricates words into witty reviews and stories. Garelick worked for the Siuslaw News, where she wrote countless theater and concert reviews, as well as feature stories and press releases celebrating the arts. She continues to write in 11 A Coast Guard volunteers lend a helping hand retirement and has recently published three books — two slim volumes of opera reviews and one rollicking novel set in the Oregon dunes where any- thing can happen. “It’s Not Over . . . Mornings at the Met” contains seven reviews from the 2013-14 sea- son of the Metropolitan Opera as seen Live in HD on the big screen in Newport and staged simultaneously in New York City. “Mew and Cry . . . Catcalls from the Box,” contains 10 reviews from the 2014-15 Met season. Her novel, “Big Dunes Gold Doubloons Coffee Spoons and Loony Tunes,” transports the reader over the river into the dunes and across the pond for a series of prepos- terous adventures. All three books are avail- able on Amazon.com as well as at the event at Silver Lining 2217 Highway 101. Stocks. Bonds. CDs. IRAs. Mutual funds. Three U.S. Coast Guard enlisted personnel and one wife from Station Siuslaw River volunteered to help serve an early Thanksgiving dinner at the United Methodist Church dining room Nov. 25, presented by Helping Hands Coalition.
