SIUSLAW NEWS ❚ WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 21, 2015 OBITUARIES GILL—Richard “Dick” Gill, 86, died Oct. 13, 2015, at home in Florence with his wife and daughter at his bed- side. Dick was born on Mother’s Day, May 12, 1929, to Charles and Florence (Shepherd) Gill at his grand- parent Shepherd’s home in Sitkum, Ore. He grew up in Dora and McKinley and graduated from Myrtle Point High School with the class of 1947. He served with the U.S. Army in Korea and was a member of the National Veterans of Foreign Wars. On June 14, 1957, he mar- ried Mary Lewis in Myrtle Point. They had three children: Shirlene, Jeffrey and David. Dick worked in the woods and in mills at McKinley and Dora before working as a survey chainman for pri- vate surveyors and Georgia Pacific. He enjoyed hunting, fish- ing, being outdoors and genealogy. Dick is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary; daughter and son-in-law Shirlene and Bob Madison of Tooele, Utah; son and daugh- ter-in-law Jeffrey and Delia Gill of Salem, Ore.; son David Gill of Vancouver, Wash.; grandson Marshall and Holly Cook of Tooele; grandson Bryson and Melissa Madison of Grantsville, Utah; granddaughter Kendra Cook of Marion, Ohio; four great-granddaughters; eight step-grandchildren; nine step-great-grandchildren; sis- ter Patricia Hufford of Florence; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Faye Mast; and brother Wayne Gill. Interment will be at Dora Cemetery in Dora, Ore. A celebration of life will be held at Burns’s Riverside Chapel Florence Funeral Home on Thursday, Oct. 22, at 10 a.m. JENKINS—Theron L. “Lucky” Jenkins, 89, of Florence, passed away Oct. 18, 2015. At his request, private cre- mational rites were held through Burns’s Riverside chapel Florence Funeral Home. FLETCHER—Robert G. Fletcher, 85, of Florence, passed away Oct. 5, 2015. He was a member of the Flo- r e n c e Salmon Trout En- Robert hancement Fletcher Program (STEP) and enjoyed fishing, ice hock- ey and watching golf on TV. He is survived by his wife, Fayrene; daughters Roberta, Susan and Noreen of Canada; a stepson in California; a sis- ter in Canada; and seven other step-children. Do you remember the exploding whale?
