The sight of Siuslaw’s Celie Mans
and Bandon’s Sailor Hutton
approaching the finish well ahead of
the pack in the varsity girls cross
country race has become a familiar
one this season.
Saturday’s Woahink Invitational
meet, which hosted teams from 25
schools, was no exception as Hutton
was the first across the finish in
18:43.6. Mans, who managed to
shave more than a minute off of her
previous time on the difficult course,
placed second in a time of 19:14.7.

Senior runningback Kenneth Thrall
may have been limping a little after
Friday’s 28-7 win over the Lancers on
Friday night, but he was too happy to
notice.
“We had two goals coming into this
game,” Thrall said amongst the excit-
ed crowd of fans and well-wishers.
“Set the tone early and get a little pay-
back from last year.”
Thrall and the rest of the Vikings
accomplished both in the near shutout
that was Siuslaw’s fourth consecutive
win (4-0) and something special for
Tim Dodson, who tucked away his
150th win as head coach.
“I don’t really keep track of things
like that, but that does make this one a
little special,” Dodson said. “But win
151 would be even better.”
Siuslaw controlled the field from
start to finish, beginning with a pass
interception and 44-yard return by
Thrall in the first quarter that led to a
one-yard quarterback keeper by
Preston Mitchell for the Viks’ first
score just four minutes into the game.

Mapleton continued its long road
series last Friday, making the trip to
McKenzie, where they emerged from
the Eagles’ nest with a decisive 74-32
Mountain West League win.
Junior defensive back and run-
ningback A.J. Foster claimed two
touchdowns on 81 yards, including
six points on three conversions for
the Sailors.
Foster went on to clip the Eagles’
wings when, after receiving a deep,
70-yard kickoff, the junior returned
the ball all the way into the end zone
for a touchdown.

momentum was junior runningback
