SIUSLAW NEWS ❚ SATURDAY, JULY 18, 2015 FAHS grills today Us TOO celebrates anniversary Hot dogs and hamburgers, as well as homemade pastries, will be available this “Power of Florence” Saturday at the Grocery Outlet parking lot. The event, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. today, raises money to help provide care for the once-homeless cats and dogs at the Florence Area Humane Society’s no-kill shelter. Hamburgers are $4, cheeseburgers are $4.50, hot dogs and Polish dogs are $3, or $3.50 with cheese. Drinks are $1 and include a variety of soft drinks plus bottled water. Baked goods homemade by FAHS volunteers are priced individually. Inside the store, FAHS vol- unteers will be greeting visi- tors with adoptable kittens. Fresh lavender bundles, locally grown by FAHS vol- unteers, will also be for sale. This month’s event also features Stuff-the-Van, when the FAHS delivery vehicle will be on hand to load pet food donated by FAHS sup- porters. The food is used to help feed the cats and dogs at the shelter as well as to help fam- ilies who cannot afford to feed their companion ani- mals. Grocery Outlet owner Woody Woodbury sponsors this fundraising event for FAHS and donates all of the food. At its July14 meeting, members of the Us TOO Florence Prostate Cancer Education and Support Chapter helped Dr. Bryan Mehlhaff celebrate his 20th anniversary as a urolo- gist. An additional part of the celebration was honoring his 11 years attending the Us TOO Florence meetings. “His selfless giving of time has simply been extraordi- nary, and sharing his expert- ise has provided monthly guidance to men dealing with the disease,” said Us TOO president Bob Horney. “Dr. Mehlhaff not only brings the latest research findings and practices at Oregon Urology Institute to our meetings, but directly and completely answers every personal con- cern raised.” Members came from Bandon, Junction City and Mapleton, in addition to the Florence area, to celebrate the occasion and express their appreciation. Three Oregon Urology Institute staff members also joined the festivities. “All in all, it was a memo- rable evening in honor of an www.shoppelocal.biz COURTESY PHOTO Dr. Bryan Mehlhaff with a cake celebrating his 20 years as a urologist and 11 years as part of Us TOO in Florence. exceptional urologist who means the world to Us TOO Florence Horney. members,” said Learn to live well with chronic condition Living Well is a free six-week workshop series designed for adults living with one or more chronic health conditions such as diabetes, asthma, arthritis or heart disease.
