SIUSLAW NEWS ❚ WEDNESDAY, JULY 15, 2015 7 A Call to local artists New Siuslaw School Board sworn in for ‘Splash of Color’ The Friends of the Florence Events Center and the FEC’s gallery committee invite artists to display their artistic cre- ations at the FEC during the months of September and October for a show titled, “A Splash of Color.” The exhibit will include 2D art, photography and 3D art. The cost to exhibit is $20 per rod, and each rod can hold up to three pieces of artwork, depending on size. An artist may also purchase more than one rod if they wish. In the locked display case, artists can display up to three pieces of 3D artwork for $20, as size allows. Applications and guidelines are available online at www. eventcenter.org, or at the FEC office, 715 Quince St. The FEC is open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Artwork should be deliv- ered to the FEC’s Gallery One on Friday, Aug. 28, between 9 and 11 a.m. An artists’ reception will be held for all exhibiting artists, their families, friends and the community on Saturday, Sept. 5, from 3 to 5 p.m. For more information, email cignatieff@live.com or call the FEC office at 541-997- 997-1994. Newly elected board mem- bers, Guy Rosinbaum and Eric Rines, won four-year terms during the Special Election in May. Rosinbaum ran for the position No. 1 seat vacated by Chad Clements, and Rines won a write-in campaign to fill posi- tion No. 3 vacated by Deena Mitchell. After being sworn in, Rosinbaum said, “I would like to see the successes we have had as a school district contin- ue. I’m here to help in any way I can.” Rines said his focus will be on vocational programs. “This year is going to be a catch-up year for me,” he said. “I would like to see where the school district is on their voca- tions programs and if there is any way we can start any other vocational programs back up. I’d like to help with that.” Board chairwoman Tammy Butler was sworn in for anoth- er four-year term and voted chairwoman for the 2015-16 school year by the board. Board member John Barrett was voted vice-chairman. In other business, the board approved 22 new hires, includ- ing 10 new food service prepa- ration personnel. These posi- tions were created to allow the district to operate its own food service program, which begins this fall. The remaining 12 new hires were an assortment of district positions. Five inter-district position transfers were also approved. The board also accepted the resignation of junior varsity boys basketball coach Dylan Perry, who is moving to Portland. The board is accepting appli- cations for the unfilled board position No. 7 until 4 p.m., Wednesday, July 29. The appointee will serve until June 30, 2017. The board will vote on an applicant to fill the position during its Aug. 12 meeting.
