ABC PRESCHOOL TO CLOSE NEXT WEEK
Boys and Girls Club goes back to core mandate of aiding youth 6 to 18 years old
Letters were sent to parents and
teachers of ABC Preschool
(ABC), a traditional and
Montessori preschool for children
3 to 6 years old, announcing that it
will cease operation on Monday,
July 6, due to inadequate cash
flow, according to Boys and Girls
Club of Western Lane County
Vice President Chuck Trent.
Operation of the financially
strapped preschool program locat-
ed at the New Life Lutheran
Church was taken over by the
Boys and Girls Club in 2014 as
part of an expansion agenda pro-
moted by then club executive
director Jonathan Hicks. The club
also acquired the Quality Child
Care of Florence (QCCF) day care
facility the same year. Both facili-
ties were in danger of closing
because of financial problems at
the time of their acquisitions.
Trent announced the closure of
QCCF last week. The club board
of directors oversees three sepa-
rate entities, Boys and Girls Club
activities, ABC and QCCF. All
three have struggled financially
since the acquisitions.
