Siuslaw Valley Fire and Rescue
(SVFR) received its first call about
a fire at 4044 Highway 101 at 6:30
a.m. on Tuesday.
The first responders were on the
scene at Pacific Pines RV Park and
Storage, owned by Brian and Linda
Stent, within five minutes.
“The call came in as a pick-up
fire in a storage unit,” said Fire
Marshal Sean Barrett.
Three units were involved in the
fire at first.
“Fire was coming out and doors
were missing on all three units with
heavy fire, heavy heat,” Barrett

attached units, SVFR called outside
emergency groups for assistance.
“We called North Bend Fire
Department because we knew it
was going to be a long call with a
lot of work and they came and
helped us,” he said. “Lane Fire
Authority stood by at the station
and covered the district for us.”
Barrett estimates that 25 to 30
people responded, including
Western Lane Ambulance District
and the Florence Police
The combined forces controlled
the fire by about 7:45 a.m.
“The construction of the building
pretty much helped it not spread
further,” Barrett said. “Between
every couple units, there is actually
a firewall, even though there are
open ceilings, which is how the
smoke spread down the ceilings of

have at least four units that are
totally destroyed, and 17 doors that
will have to be replaced where the

DUNES CITY — Dunes City road com-
missioner Bill Harris and Florence Lodge
107 of the Ancient Free and Accepted
Masons (AF and AM) were recognized for
their volunteer service during last week’s
city council meeting.
The council voted Harris the 2015
Volunteer of the Year.
“He has probably put in 50 times the
amount of volunteer time of any other road
commissioner,” Dunes City Administrator
Fred Hilden said.
Mayor Rebecca Ruede said the council
would present the award to Harris at the
council meeting in July.
Florence Lodge 107 was awarded $250
and a certificate of appreciation from
Dunes City for providing the most volun-
teers for the third annual Oregon Dunes
Triathlon and Duathlon.
“We had a number of volunteer groups
and organizations participating,” Ruede
said, “but one organization stood out far
above the others. That was Florence Lodge
107 of the AF and FM.”
Hunt Ramsey, Lodge 107 worshipful
master, accepted the framed certificate and
$250 on behalf of the Masons.
The lodge provided 15 of the 70 volun-
teers who helped during the May event at
Honeyman State Park.
In other business, the council adopted
the previously approved budget for the
2015-16 fiscal year of $628,990.
Problems with Ordinance No. 178, the
22-page dog and pet regulation ordinance
adopted in June 2005, were also discussed
at the June 11 meeting.
Researching for a current dog complaint
raised concerns that the ordinance requires
violations to be resolved through the non-
existent Dunes City Municipal Court. It
also referred to animal regulations issued
by the now-defunct Lane County Animal
showed puppy love
Saturday during the
American Cancer Society’s
second annual Bark for Life
at Miller Park in Florence.
The event’s five teams and
20 total participants raised
$2,190 to fight cancer.
