More than six pickup truck-loads of litter were gathered during the three-hour event. Florence Herb Enthusiasts will host popular local speaker Frances Klippel during their Thursday, May 15 meeting. Klippel will share how to easily make healthy cleaning products using ingredients you probably already have avail- able around the house. Common household clean- ers contain items such as: ammonia, bleach, butyl cello- solve, cresol, dye, ethanol, formaldehyde, glycol, hydrochloric acid, hydrofluoric acid, napthalene, paradichlorobenzenes, per- chloroethylene, petroleum dis- tillates, phenol, phosphoric acid, propellants, sulfuric acid, and trichloroethylene. Each of these chemicals is dangerous and most are con- sidered hazardous waste. “It’s really easy to make your own natural cleaners with vinegars, essential oils and other basic items,” said Klippek. “We are commonly exposed to toxins on a daily basis from many commercial cleaners. The 10-person FloTone singers will be accompanied by Adams on the keyboard, sup- ported by drummer Randy Curtola and bassist Lynette Kristine. Handling the instrumental solos are two very experienced jazz artists: trumpeter Ron Green and reed-player Lou Invernon. Two performances of The Glory of Love will be present- ed on the flat floor of the Florence Events Center on Friday and Saturday, May 29 and 30. Call 541-997-1994 for more information. ‘Aging Well’ series continues PeaceHealth Peace Harbor Medical Center, in coordina- tion with Lane Community College in Florence, is once again offering its “Aging Well” series. These educational classes are free and focused on pre- ventative care, alternative therapies and advanced care planning and self-care. Topics vary from month to month and presentations are conducted by health care and community professionals on the second Thursday of each month. The followjng classes will be offered: • May 14 — “Consider the Conversation: A Documentary on a Taboo Subject” is being offered. • June 11 — “Diet Facts for Seniors” given by diabetes educator Joan Tabor. The lecture series is held at LCC and begins at 9 a.m. Each class generally lasts an hour. The presentations are free but registration is required to ensure enough space and materials are available.
