Through a generous dona- tion from Soroptimist of Florence member Julita Fong, the local club was able to fulfill its pledge of $5,000 in its entirety to PeaceHealth Peace Harbor’s “Leave A Legacy, Save A Life” campaign, help- ing in the fundraising drive for the renovation of the hospital’s Emergency Department. Soroptimist of Florence sup- ports the community in many ways; they were also support- ers of the hospital when it was being built in 1989. Other support from the Soroptimist of Florence includes: Florence Area Community Coalition, Florence Pregnancy Center, Florence Senior Nutrition, Future First Citizen, Girls Scouts, Health Fair, Siuslaw Girls Volleyball Club, Triangle Park Maintenance and Five Scholarships. Currently, the Soroptimist of Florence Club is in its annual fundraising drive with the rose sale. Hosts needed for exchange students, chaperones The 4-H International Programs are seeking host fam- ilies, with two programs now open for applications. Applicants do not need to have previous or current 4-H involvement. The summer program involves hosting a Japanese student, ages 12 to 16, for four weeks, July 26 through Aug. 22. The 4-H International also seeks hosts for the Japanese chaperones. Such host families do not need to have children in the home. The 4-H provides a network of support for families, includ- ing a local Lane County Coordinator and state coordi- nator. International students are highly selected, have strong English language skills, and have very high standards to qualify. involves hosting a student from Japan, South Korea or a nation in Eurasia. Host families can be without children or with chil- dren of different ages than the delegates. Summer program youth del- egates are matched by age and interest with families applying to host them. American families must have a child within two years of the hosted youth’s age and of the same gender. Annual Free Shred Day at OPB April 18 Oregon Pacific Bank will be holding its eighth annual Free Shred Day on Saturday, April 18, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., or until the truck is full. Trucks will be set up to accept confidential paper mate- rials to be shredded onsite in the Florence Branch parking lot, 1355 Highway 101. The event is free and open to everyone in the local commu- nity. Businesses can bring con- fidential materials for shred- ding during the last hour of the event.
