March 4, 2015 • Florence Home & Garden Show • 3c iExhibitor Laurel Bay Gardens Putting ‘culture’ in permaculture and the ‘oh!’ in organics aurel Bay Gardens will be “front and center” in this year’s Home and Garden Show at the Florence Events Center and will greet visitors at the entrance with an “unearthing the urban garden” display highlighting per- maculture methods for creating compost and good soil tilth for the garden. Laurel Bay Garden staff will be on hand to show off the new line of OMRI certified organic compost and soils along with herbs, vegetable starts, bare root berries and fruit trees. Laurel Bay’s outdoor booth will feature the lowest price of the season on pansies and primroses while they last. “And we’ll be giving out ‘dirty money’ — $5 notes to use toward your purchase of our Royal Soil,” says David Sedlacek, aka “Bamboo Dave,” bamboo expert and owner of Laurel Bay Gardens. The indoor landscape centerpiece will feature a patio design called the Garden of Artful Delight. Artistic sculptures, metal and glass surrounded by an urban landscape design, will show how home- owners can create a vibrant yet private backyard landscape that reflects their style. “It’s all about color this year in the landscape, not just blossoms that fade but leaves, stems, twigs, even the shadows and the movement of the plants in the land- scape,” notes Lisa Walter-Sedlacek, Laurel Bay Gardens owner and land- scape designer. “Our indoor dis- play will showcase the beautiful plants, water features, patio and walkway pavers, and stone that we sell at the Laurel Bay Gardens nursery,” she adds. As Florence’s home town garden cen- ter, Laurel Bay Gardens loves to help cus- 25 YEARS & G R O W I N G L or more than 25 years, Laurel Bay Gardens has earned excellent reviews and customer loyalty for their products and services as a result of listening to customers, coming up with creative landscaping solu- tions, and creating yards and gardens to reflect their cus- tomers’ sense of style. Owner Lisa Walter-Sedlacek began her work in Florence as a landscaping and yard maintenance con- tractor in the winter of 1989. Not long after, in response to customer requests, Lisa and her husband David opened a full-service nursery, continually improving the quality and variety of products and services. Over the years, they have grown the business from a one-person yard maintenance operation to a full-service commercial and residential landscaping company that includes a nursery, irrigation system installation and serv- ice; patios, walkways and retaining walls; bulk sales of rock, bark, soils, and compost; and a gift shop with an ever-changing selection of seasonal home and yard décor. “We know what grows,” says Walter-Sedlacek. “One size does not fit all in this area. We don’t offer cookie- cutter ideas to clients. We don’t just stick a plant in the sand and hope it grows. We invest heavily in continuous education for our staff and management for the benefit of our customers.” Laurel Bay Gardens’ staff counsels their customers on what kinds of plants work in which environments-not just in the coastal Oregon climate, but on which side of the client’s house, in proximity to existing plants, and in what combination of soils and moisture that may occur naturally at the customer’s site. In fact, Walter-Sedlacek has worked with suppliers to develop their signature soil blend “Royal Soil,” custom-formulated to Florence-area bio systems. That may explain why Laurel Bay Gardens has out- lasted so many competitors over the last 25 years. Last year, Laurel Bay Gardens received the Florence Area Chamber of Commerce’s Siuslaw Business Award for “Best Customer Service” and has been acknowledged for their contribution to The River House Inn’s award for “Outstanding Curb Appeal.” Laurel Bay Gardens believes in our town and is pleased to be a part of many community service projects over the years. F Lisa & David Sedlacek Sedlacek says to count on Laurel Bay Gardens for everything you need. “And, to help wrap-up our 25th anniversary year, we’re giving away a $25 Laurel Bay Gardens gift certificate each day of the Home and Garden Show,” adds Walter-Sedlacek. Laurel Bay Gardens is located two minutes north of Fred Meyer in Florence at 88493 Highway 101. The phone num- ber is 541-997-5973 and their website is LaurelBayGardens.com.
