In an exciting collaboration between the play’s producers and the FEC galleries, the Gallery Committee is announcing a “Call to Artists” for a Rent-A-Rod show during the month of March. The theme is “Life in Our Town.” Entries can either follow the themes of the play – everyday living, love and marriage, and the reality of death, or can focus on our own town of Florence. To rent-a-rod, an application can be obtained on-line, www.eventcenter. org. Click on the top header “Galleries.” Applications can also be obtained at the FEC Offi ce during normal business hours. The cost to rent-a-rod is $20.00, and each rod can hold up to three paintings. The glass case is also available for up to three items per application for $20.00. The Pulitzer Prize winning play Our Town is set in small town America 100 years ago. It is a beautifully written work by Thornton Wilder about appreciating the beauty of the simple things and is heralded by some as the greatest American play ever written. Our Town will be presented on March 20 and 21 at 7 p.m., and on the 22 at 2 p.m. It will be repeated on March 27 and 28 at 7 p.m., and on March 29 at 2 p.m. The three act play has two intermissions, and the audiences will be encouraged to visit Gallery One during the intermissions to refl ect on the art work and its relation to the play. It featured great material from that hot, sassy and fascinating period of American popular music, but, so much had to be left out, Jesse and the band felt they just had to do a follow-up performance. That will happen in a special Saturday matinee on February 7 at 1:30 p.m. This year’s show gives a special nod to the many fantastic female vocalists of the period, T U O SOLD Rotary Club meets every Tuesday at noon.
