4 B SIUSLAW NEWS ❚ SATURDAY, JANUARY 24, 2015 COMMUNITY NEWS Before Valentine’s Day, ‘Share Your Heart’ with CROW www.shoppelocal.biz Siuslaw News + CROW (Children’s Repertory of Oregon Workshops) presents an oppor- tunity for the Florence commu- nity to become personally involved in building the dreams of local kids. On Friday, Feb. 13, at 7 p.m., CROW invites the public to “Share Your Heart.” Held at the Florence Events Center (FEC), this fundraising party is like nothing you’ve ever attended. The evening will feature the vocal talents of local perform- ers Marty Adams, Mary Beers, Michael Jacobson, Sheena Moore, Erin Reinke, Jacob Steinberger and Jason Wood. There also will be a silent auction filled with unique products and services from local businesses. Perhaps the most heart- warming portion of the evening will be when several of CROW’s talented, hard-work- ing performers entertain the audience. “These kids are amazing, and they are the reason that we are doing any of this,” said CROW director and founder Melanie Heard. The evening will culminate with a “Raise Your Paddle” donation opportunity. Reservations are required for this event. Single tickets are $39 for adults and $25 for youth, ages 12 and under. A full table of 8 can also be purchased for $285. Tickets include wine (adults only) and hot hors d’oeuvres, as well as a chance to bid on the amazing baskets, prizes, and desserts up for grabs. For tickets, call the FEC at 541-997-1994, or visit Members of Children’s Repertory of Oregon Workshops (CROW) invite the public to join them on Friday, Feb. 13, for a night of catered hors d’oeuvres, a silent auction and musi- cal and theatrical enter- tainment. CROW is planning to pur- chase and renovate a building in Florence to create a perma- nent performing arts facility for youth. The facility will house ongo- ing education with classes in dance, theatre, voice, and other fine and performing arts gen- res, as well as provide desper- ately needed space for rehearsals, small performances, Show your love of books at library book sale In the spirit of upcoming Valentine’s Day, the communi- ty is invited to show its love for the Siuslaw Public Library with the BIG February Book Sale, Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 7 and 8. The sale will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days, in the Bromley Room at the main branch of the library, 1460 Ninth St. As a sweet treat for Friends of the Library, a special VIP Preview Sale will be open from 8:30 to 10 a.m. on Saturday, for Friends members only. Coffee, juice and a conti- nental breakfast will be pro- vided, along with door prizes and first dibs on thousands of books. This preview event is a small thank you to the Friends for their support of the library all year long. Memberships starting at $10 per calendar year and will be available at the door, or can be purchased in advance at the library. This two-day book sale is a great opportunity to stock up on winter reading material-at bargain prices. “We have thousands of hardcover books selling for only a dollar, pocket paper- backs are only 50 cents,” said Sherry Curran, president of the Library Friends. “The book sale is the perfect time for readers to fill their book- shelves without spending a lot of money.” The popular $2-per-bag sale will run for the last hour of the sale on Sunday, from 3 to 4 p.m. Credit and debit cards are accepted, along with cash and checks. All proceeds go to support the Siuslaw Library and its programs. Friends volunteers have been hard at work sorting fic- tion and nonfiction books, along with magazines, DVDs, CDs, and even VHS tapes for the big sale. All types of fic- tion will be for sale, grouped alphabetically by author’s last name, along with a huge vari- ety of nonfiction including biography, history, cookbooks, sports, nature, spirituality and travel. Reusable canvas book bags, featuring whimsical book art by a local artist, can also be purchased at the sale and filled with books. New books are put out throughout the sale; shop early and shop often. Book sales are one of the Friends’ primary fundraisers. By purchasing books, shop- pers help to support the libraries in both Mapleton and Florence. Get Results...List With Desiree. The potential building has already been selected and a budget drawn up. “Share Your Heart” is only the beginning of the fundraising ahead. “Our Florence-area folks have always shown how big their hearts are ...
