Woahink Lake Assn. winter social today The Woahink Lake Association will hold its win- ter social today, Jan. 17, at the West Woahink Meeting Hall, at 2 p.m. The mission of the Woahink Lake Association is to pro- mote the understanding, pro- tection and thoughtful man- agement of Woahink Lake and its watershed and ecosystem. Membership is open to those who reside or are prop- erty owners within the Woahink Lake watershed. Prospective new members are welcome to attend. Applications for new mem- bers and membership renewals will be available at the meet- ing. Ada Grange to host bingo night tonight Ada Grange is having a bingo fundraiser. The public is invited to come for dinner and play bingo tonight, Jan 17. The kitchen opens at 5 p.m. and will be serving tacos along with its regular menu. Diabetes Support Group meets Tuesday LCC closed for MLK Day Monday The Siuslaw Diabetes/Pre- diabetes Support Group will meet Tuesday, Jan 20, at 2 p.m., in the conference room at the Siuslaw Public Library. West Lane Translator, Inc., a a not-for-profit organization providing free television and radio re-transmission to the Florence area, and a new non- commercial radio station KXCR, will hold a board meeting Wednesday, Jan. 21, beginning at 6:30 p.m., in the Bromley Room at the Siuslaw Public Library. The public is invited to attend. Library board meets Jan. 21 Port of Siuslaw meets Jan. 21 The Siuslaw Public Library District Board of Directors will meet Wednesday, Jan. 21, at 1:30 p.m., in the Bromley Room of the Siuslaw Public Library, 1460 Ninth Street, for a regular meeting of the Siuslaw Public Library District board of directors. The Port of Siuslaw Board of Commissioners will hold its regular meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 21, at 7 p.m., at the port office, 100 Harbor Street. Port meetings are open to the public. Rhody Society meets Tuesday The Siuslaw Chapter of the American Rhododendron Society will meet Tuesday, Jan. 20, for refreshments at 6.30 p.m. At 7 pm, Steve Hootman from the Rhododendron Species Botanical Garden will talk about “The 2012 Expedition to Sichuan, Guizhou and Guangxi, China.” He will show images of the landscapes and plants, includ- ing never-before-seen Rhododendron species. AARP Driver Safety class offered Jan. 21 AARP Driver Safety Program will be offered on Wednesday, Jan. 21. Class will be held from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Shorewood Retirement Apartments, 15th and Spruce streets. Cost for AARP members is $15; nonmembers is $20. Call Lane Community West Lane Translator Board meets Jan. 21 Luncheon to benefit Mapleton Food Share An annual luncheon and game party benefitting Mapleton Food Share will take place Jan. 26, beginning at 11:30 a.m., at the Florence Elks Lodge. There will be door prizes, a raffle and table games. Admission to the event will be $12, with lunch provided by the Elks Lodge’s chefs promptly at noon. Any non-perishable food items will be accepted at that time for Mapleton Food Share. All proceeds will go to Mapleton Food Share. Donations of dog or cat food accepted. LCC seeks volunteers for ESL program The English as a Second Language (ESL) program at Lane Community College Florence Center is in need of volunteers. On Monday evenings from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., ESL needs one volunteer to help a student study for the citizenship test.
