And your father’s death was only the latest as just three years previously your only brother, a teenager, dies in a car accident and five years previous- ly your mother dies of cancer. And then in cleaning out papers after your father’s funeral you discover that your father had been married before your mother and that you have two older half- brothers back in England that you never knew existed. This is what happened to author Will Boast. This memoir, sad, heartbreak- ing, and ultimately redemptive, must have been a cathartic process for the young author, now in his mid-30s. The secrets his parents kept, the confusion of being British in America or being an American in Britain, the loneliness of being the last one alive in your family, and the awkwardness of newly found siblings is a moving story, very well told. Boast, a former Wallace Stegner Fellow, has previously written a book of short stories and was going to write this story as a novel. But he was told no one would believe all of those events in a novel and so this memoir, Epilogue, is the result. Cover Oregon Today from noon to 3 p.m. there will be a Cover Oregon health insurance open house at the library. At this enrollment event an expert can guide you through the application on HealthCare.gov and help you sort through your health plan options. You’ll also find out how much you can save on insurance costs. Who should attend? People who had a private plan through Cover Oregon in 2014. People without insurance, or people who want to comparison shop for 2015 coverage. You will need to bring the fol- lowing information for everyone in your family who wants cover- age: Social Security number, if you have one; non-citizen ID number, if you have one; and income documents or self- employment records if you don’t already know your yearly income. Walk-ins are welcome or you can register for the event at: 5 A www.bit.ly/13mhEmW. Anime Club The next meeting of the library’s Anime Club will be on Friday, Jan. 9, at 3 p.m., in the library’s Bromley Room. There will be a showing of the movie Summer Wars. Don’t miss this fun event for anime and Japanese animation fans! Borrowing material from other libraries Do you ever need a book or other material which we don’t have here at the Siuslaw Public Library? You can always ask if we can order it on interlibrary loan. Interlibrary loan is a system where we search for the material at other libraries and request to borrow it for you. Books are usu- ally the easiest to borrow. Many libraries have restrictions on lending audiovisual materials such as DVDs, videos and recorded books, as well as spe- cial collections such as genealo- gy or local history, but it’s always worth a try to see if we can borrow it. The next time you need something just stop by the reference desk and we will see if we can help you out!
