The crop is good and the prices is x;p to twenty cents per pound. Of late years they have been well sat isfied with receiving twelve or four teen cents per pound. During the hard times the prise was down to five or six cents per pound. The probable cause of the good prices of later years is that a large percent-age of the former hop growers have quit the business. It is the forcings of the law of supply and .demand. There is a sentiment arising in many states that railroads should le assessed at a higher rate of val uation. This question entered in to politics in Umatilla county last June in the election of an assessor, and from all appearances prepaia tions are being made in Idaho to bring it before the people at the fall election. Last week county X-omniissioners from nine counties in that state called upon the State Jloaru of Equalization and demand ed that the valuation of railroad jropertv be raised. A very lamentable accident oc curred near Paris last week when both Chas. Fair and his wife were hilled by their automobile becom ing unmanageable. The home of the unfortunate couple was in Cali fornia, the husband being a son of the well known millionaire, Chns. ti. Fair. As t'.ie couple left no rhildren the yellow journals are ' loudly asking which one of the un fortunate couple died first. If the husband breathed longer than his wife, their fortune falls to his rela tives. If he died first, his wife's relatives become the heirs to their fortune.
