In our busy age, when so many men and women overtax both physical and mental strength through overwork or pleasure-taking, there are five times as many tases of “ In »omnia” as there were a generation ago. W hat to do for these rases is one of the difficult problems with which the medii al profession has to deal. The chief depend ence lies in the use of Chloral, Opium Bro mide, Chloroform, or some other narcotiz ing substance. These bring temporary but n o t refreshing sleep, and leave tne ner vous system, after their effects cease, tg a more exhausted condition than before and w ith a lessened ability to sleep. The ease of every one who resorts to these drugs becomes, in consequence of the necessity for continually using them iu gradually increasing quantities, simply hopeless. But is there no safe way of quieting the excited nerves, and inducing a sleep that will be healthy, refreshing and perma nent? Happily there Is. under a treatm ent which does no violence to the system and cures by restoring the vital forces aud nerve power to their normal condition. A wonderful case of “ Insomnia” and re covery from it is th at of Mr. A rthur Ha gan, the well-known tobacconist, of P h il adelphia. Mr. Hagan is one of tlie largest dealers in tobacco and is the Philadelphia representative of the great Baltimore house of G. W. Gail & Ax. To a gentle man w ho called on him at his store, No. 63 North Front St., to enquire about his case, Mr. Hagan said: “ M y case was o n e ’of severe "and long- continued insomnia, proceeding largely from dyspepsia, the result of too great ap plication to business. Sleep became almost an impossibility. M y distress during the nighi fo r not being able to secure refresh ing slumber was dreadful. I t weakened and distracted me during the day and matte attention to business a slow m ar tyrdom . For five or six ;awr* I was under the care of different physicians. “A fter passing through a long variety of experiences as to physic and diet, I hap pened one day to pass the office of l)rs Starkey & Palen, and noticed the sign ‘Compound Oxygen.' As all other modes of treatm ent had failed I thought I would try this, so 1 went in and began it a t a venture. The Oxygen did not work an immediate miracle on me, but I soon fell th a t it was doing me good. Before long J began tu know the pleasure o f sleep, lty degrees the dyspepsia left me and the power to sleep returned. M y recovery was slow, but it was real. For several months I took the Cempound Oxygen, carefully olieying instructions and constantly gain ing slrengih, my system receiving the vitalizing which it so badly needed. “This took place about two years ago and 1 hate enjoyed e prim e condition o f health ever since. 1 have been able to attend with pleasure a n d satisfaction to m y business. I eat and sleep as well as a m an can desire to." If special informa tion is desired in regard to thereinarkable treatm ent from which such surprising re lief was obtained it will lie furnished by Drs. Starkey & Palen, 1529 Arch St., P h il adelphia, who will mail free their Treatise on Compound Oxygen to any oue who will w rite to them for it. Orders for tlie Compound Oxygen Home Treatm ent will be filled by H. E. Mathews, 621 Powell street, between Bush and Pine streets, San Franeiseo.
