Lko IvNcrrr, Second assistant postmaster general. ONLY HALF AMVK. There are hosts of men and women who, to coin a phrase, are only half alive. That is to say, they have soldom if ever mi appetite, are nervous, weak, fidgotty, und troubled by numberless small aches and jitiins. In the presence of vigorous, exuberant vitality they seem mere pig mies. Such persons are usually fond of dosing themselves, swallowing in the course of a your drugs enough to stock an apothecary's shop of average dimen sions. This, of course, defeats instead of furthering the end in view, viz., the re covery of health and vigor. Were they to seek It from an unfailing course of vi tality, Hostotrer'H Stomach Hitters, how dill'ormit would bo their case. Then vig or would return to their debilitated frames, the glow of health to their wan cheeks, their trembling and uncertain gait would grow firm and elustic, appetite, the grandest of all sauces, would give a roli'h to the daily food, were it ever so course, and refreshing sleep would crown tho task of the day. HOW LOXU? A niiib-sitled, mud-covered granger en tered a Main-street clock store about dust Saturday evening, and with a bewildered look, asked : "Mister, is this where a man kin git a clock?" "Yes. sir," said the clock clerk. "Wall," said- the granger, "what be that tickey worth ?" pointing to an ornate und intricate piece of time recording mech anism on the shelf. "That, sir," said the clerk, "is a won derful time-piece. His worth ft-MO, and will run three years without winding." "Groat Scott !" gasped the granger; "three years without winding'. Say mis ter, how long will the blame tiling run if it was wound up?" liKMAKKAHU-: ESCAPE. John Kuhn, of Lafayette, Ind., had a very narrow escape from death. Ibis is his own story : "One year ago I was in I.. l..ut ..t' ...r. 1m.. I..-..., piivsicians gave my case up. 1 linaiiy got so low that our doctor said I could not live twenty-four hours. Mv friends then purebased a bottle of DU. V'M. HALL'S BALSAM FOR TIIK JLITNUK, which benefited me. I continued until I took nine bottles. I tun now in perfect health , having used no other medicine." ATTENTION'. UAU.KOAII MUX! "I suli'ered more thun u year with indi gestion; was very bilious; hud dumb chills, followed by fevers, which prostrat ed nie. 1 took Simmons Liver Regula tor, and am sutislicd timt it is all that it is recommended for indigestion and bil ious complaints, for mine was certainly a Mtubhorn case. Many of my friends HMuk of it, and they all agree that it pos sesses all the virtues claimed for it. A. II. HlOHTOWKK, Conductor C. K. It., tin." FIFTY THOUSAND A Y F.Alt. To he Hjjre. You've "only got a cold" ; "only ti cough." "be all over it in a few days." "Don't worry ubout me." Well, we won't. Hut KtMHH) people die every year in the United States from consump tion. When purchasing plasters, ask for and see t hat you get Allcock's i'orous Plasters. Kaeh genuine plaster bears 1 he register trade mark stamp. Celluloid is made mostly of ingredients. Take about equal parts, of ingredients and foreign substances and unite them at a given temperature and they will harden under a certain pressure so that they will be come celluloid. The process I dare say, is less complex than you had at first sup posed. Celluloid is used in the construction of various articles of trade, such as combs, knife-handles, billiard-balls, poker-chips, etc., etc., but it has distinguished itself more in late year in the collaMtnd-cr.tr line than elsewhere. The celluloid col lar of commerce has a tired and time stained hue even in youth, and in age it is sicklied e'er with the pale east of thought. I am now engaged in perfecting a cellu loid garment, to consist of a pair of (Mill's to he fastened inside the sleeve of the coat in such a manner as to be indepen dent of the indorsement of the shirt. A standing collur with a Rhine-stone button and buckskin scarf, so made as to spring around the neck, as set forth in designs accompanying application for patent, and held down by weights in such a manner as to prevent the collar from climbing over head, will bo used at the seme time. Both collars and cuffs will Vie made with button-holes, so that a shirt may lie but toned on while in use if it can be bor rowed. These garments will be worn by American authors in case an interna tional copyright law should be deemed inadvisable. European authors will have to economize also, but whether tiiey will squander, their royalty on such gaudy trappings as collars and bread remains to be seen. A literary friend of mine, writing from England, ssys that unless sjteody justice is done to authors on his Hide of the Atlantic, his costume hereafter will consist of a small haversack of snuff to throw in the eyes of the police. Hut I forgot, Lucretia, that you were not inquisitive about celluloid only. ". You can bleach your hair by ex posing it to the night air. You may also produce the same effect by getting your self Beared to death. These things may be carried to excess, however. Julis Aquarium I can not write week ly for your tiood Templars' lodge ar, the Tin Dipper. 1 would be tickled to death to do so if my family could be filled up three times a day with prohibition. Hut in the home circle over which 1 have the honor to preside, the gastric juice turns up its nose at prohibitory measures in place of ground feed. I '.o not feel above writing for the Tin Dipper, lint, on behalf of the Nye eso hegus, cardiac orilice, duodenum, ileum, jejunum, 1 must decline. I 'lease state to Hydraulic Pressure Lodge, No. :i:!8, that it is not pride that prevents my becoming a regular contrib utor to the TinDipjier, but a common apjietite for victuals in a heated state. Financier You ak how money is made most rapidly, and how most sud denly to ucquire the same. In coming to the writer of this paragraph for infor mation you have done well. Had you gone to the devil, you would have clone better, however. Money is most rapidly made in the United States mints, at Philadelphia, San Francisco, New Orleans, and Denver. The quickest way to acquire this wealth would lie to take a long, stiff crowbar, a two bushel bag of dynamite, and a stern resolve. Go to the mint at Philadelphia while the watchman is in Europe, pry open the door with the crowbar and dy namite, using care to close the door after you, so that yon will not take cold while counting the money take what you ab solutely need, and go away. In going away, do not leave your brains or other portions oi your system on the tloor. In the United States mint great attention is paid to cleanliness, and even if your brains are of no use to yourself, you should not leave them in the way for other people to step over and fail clown, upon. Physical Wreck You can hardly take the ruby color out of your nose in the way you suggest. The man who charged you twenty-five dollars for bleaching your nose and then went away, leaving your inflamed proboscis inserted in a large plaster cast, was no gentleman, and I would be willing to have you tell him so on your own responsibility. I cim not noiu out any guttering promises to you, P. Wreck, us regards the ultimate fading of your nose. It may fade, but you will no doubt, fade with it. It. will not. grow pale in time for you to marry again. ftlv advice, lor which 1 charue nothing, simply appropriating the three virgin stamps you inclosed, is to so live that when vou come to (lie vou will not lie ashamed to let St. 1'efPr smell of vour breath. Farewell, Physical Wreck. ift your nose he a lighthouse to the growing youth of our hind. J to not put it under a hush el, but let it he trimmed and burning. Do not hide it behind the thick glass bottom ot u beer mug, but keen it out in the open air, where the school children can look with a shudder on the hand- painted holocaust which God gave you to smell with.
