Persons are malting the prelimin
ary survey for a canal to take water
from the Santiam to Marion Station,
for propelling purposes. They find
the same water can be used at Marion,
then at Miller's and then at Jefferson.
The total length of the canal will be
but seven miles.
John Gay was arrested at Wheat
land a few days ago for selling liquor
without license. He was taken to
Portland, and, according to reports,
he is not the Gay fellow he was.
