In the dream, in the vision immortal, In the will of the Infinite bound, The old centuries, silent but deathless. Stand waiting their turn to be crowned From the f?rav, immemorial ages. While our eksence run riotous free, Flaunting high in the banners of cloud land. Or swelling in veins of the sea Beat in times an untamable measure, ; Lashed by forms of a Saurian shore, Shapeless bulks of an early existence, That rise on the vision no more, .In the under-world, hidden beneath us, In the darkness and silence of stone, We stare at their shadowy outlines. These types that preceded our own. We grope in th-a crypts of the ages, Far back of the records of men, For the forms of a life that has vanishod. Recalling its semblance again ; Not dreaming our bones hold the mam , ' moth, Tl at our wills have his measureless span, That n-iture.atrnjrglinjr. toward centres, Is subliming her forces in man. And we, who are mafte up of all things. Sliall reveal us, but midway in progress, Hints of whithertolabyrinthstrend T.irdy hints, of a thousand clear mean- Set remote in the future and past. Struggling outward and back to too essence . . . Which held and shall hold us at last. In the dream, in the vision more joyful, In the will ofthe Infinite bound. While the centuries, silent butdeatnless Stand waining their turn to be crowned. Overland for January. Gpnersil Spinner and the Treas ury Ladies. From the Cincinnati Commercial. With resignation of General Spin ner, the women workers of the Unit ed States Treasury loso their long tested and most devoted friend. There is no Government; department d the capital in which women have suffered sncn injustice, defemation, and wrong as in the Treasury. That wicked men in power have used this beehive of the Goverment as a nomi nal receptacle for women weak as w icked is most true. That hundreds o!")trne, refined gentlewomen have suffered the great wrong of such as sociates is equally tru.9. That 1 the Treasury swarms with lollies reduced from affluence to want, who, for the support of their friends, toil at any task given them for half the pay that would ba given to a pan for the same work is also truoj That hun dreds of women tave parsed compet itive examinations entitling them to twelve hundred dollar clerkships wr'iich were given to Yoters "while tihey were, thankful to i get a nine flmind red-dollar one, is Equally true. But through all the changes of bn ro.m and departmental chiefs, through all their tribulations of every sort, the women workers of tho Treasury have beeiji snre of one unchanging and never tj be shaken fr:nd. He was sufficiently old and ugly to have no evil motives set against his kindness even by the m ist evil minded. - Net a woman with a grievance, no matter how-?he mtght shrink from the bther poten easrtry in ttlieir luxnri- tates of the Treasury ons chairs, but who fell "eqnal" to carry it to "the Gene kl." When the re port of General Spinne.'s resigna tion spread through tho Treasury, hua lreds of women repaired to his room, to ascertain its truth. When they found they were ini9ed to lose their.frjend, they wept tfll the room remoulded with their soil 1 Our Foreign Fruit Trade. The New York Ecen: g Pout has b3en engaged in collectii ; some very interesting information relating to the foreign fruit trade in this conn CD try, and the statistics which it fur nishes show the importations are far larger than generally belli ved. The receipts at the port of "SAw York for the first quarter of the f Went year, endingMarch 31, are.xlry largely in excess of those of the ime period last year. Prices. hovfiver, have raled low, and the trade has been somewhat depressed, owing to the extremely cold weather of February and March.
