The Seattle Dispatch of tlio3dinst. says that We are pleased to an nounce a result of which we had not a doubt, that the President has granted an unconditional pardon to Hon. Henry G. Struve, Secretary of Washington Territory, for deserting from the army twenty years ago. Mr. Struve ..t that time "in his non age, a German by birth and but re cently an ived in this country, had enlisted uuder the misapprehension that in this Democratic country a private soldier was in the line of pro motion, to be determined by ability and meritorious service. He very soon discovered the delusion of his idea of the service. Assigned to menial duties in a military hospital he found nothing before him in the military eareer to which he had bound himself before lie was of age to contract a civil obligation, but several years of degraded and degrad ing menial servitude during the llower of his manhood. Like any youth of education and spirit, who should find himself thus circum stanced through misapprehension or deception, he took violent possession of himself and asserted his own man hood, in violation of law, choosing rather to incur the risk of recapture and condign punishment than under go years of irksome slavery tending to unfit him for future usefulness Without resorting to any dishonora ble evasion or subterfuge, he only sought a section of the country where he was not known, and entered upon a new career, with no other aid than his own energy and indomitable will. He has achieved a success to which few attain, and established for him self a character which none need be asnameu oi. lie has labored tor a score of years with this error of his youth, visible only to himself, hang ing over him like a pall, clouding his brightset hopes and liable at any moment to fall upon him and shroud his fut'ire in darkness. Through the malice of enemies it was at last disclosed to the world, and as often happens, the malicious intent has proved a blessing to its object and a plague to the inventors. It has dis persed the cloud which has chilled his best efforts" and left no shadow upon his fair frame in the view of honorable censure."
