On Tuesday of last week, Mr. David
Markwood called at my office and re
quested me to go w ith him to a joint

of that day. "He stated that the bod v
had not boon identilied, but he believed
it to be the body of his son, who was
drowned near the mouth of the Clack
amas river, on the 11th of Octolnr.

it was the duty of any Justice of the
Peace to act as such, when the Coroner
was absent or could not be found. I
said to Mr Markwood that I did not
wish to perform tlie duties of Coroner,
and that lie had better wait for Dr. Koss
