Morton, widow of the late General" Morton of the United States army, was in Weston Tues day in the interest of the Red Cross. Mrs. Morton is actively identified with the Red Cross move ment in. this county, and was one of the leaders in the recent patriotic demonstration at Pendleton. According to the Echo News the Jacob Wattenburger shearing crew started the season Tuesday at the big Echo plant. Twenty-four shear ing machines and a full crew of operators are employed, and be tween ttOOO and 4000 sheep will be handled daily by this plant, which is the best equipped in the North west. The Ladies' Guild held its annual election of ollicers on Easter Mon day afternoon at the home of Mrs. K. Proudfit. The incumbent ollicers were retained, as follows: Mrs. L, S. Wood, president; Mrs. L. I. O'Harra, vice president ; Mrs. A. James, secretary; Mrs. K. M. War ren, treasurer. In addition to the membership Mrs. J. F. Snider and Mrs. K. L. Reynaud were present as guests. The hostess was assisted in serving an excellent and bounti ful luncheon by Mrs. C. H. Smith and Mrs. Frank Graham. The next meeting will be held the first Thurs day afternoon in May at the home of Mrs. E. M. Warren. The W, C. T. U. held its regular meeting at the home of Mrs, Kennard Tuesday, afternoon. Af ter the business session a very interesting program of songs, read ings, and discussion was enjoyed by those present. The union de cided to offer its services to the Red Cross society at Pendleton. It was also decided to invite the Milton union to hold its silver medal contest next Tuesday even ing, April 17, at 7:30 p. m. at the school house here, music also to be furnished by the visiting union. The meeting closed with each lady present gathering orange blossoms from a tree planted and grown in Weston.
