A FEW MINUTES WITH THE EDITOR reckless al 'TO drivers The utter disregard for the rights of others, and the mean. selfish, contemptible behavior of the average autoist when on the road, will soon force the farm- era of east Multnomah to take aggressive steps toward the ini- tiation of a movement forbid- ding the use of county roads to the go-devils that are constantly placing the lives of every family traveling the public highway in jeopardy. Driving at a 30 to 50 mile gait in the center of the road, they neither stop, care nor heed the rights of the horse drawn vehicle. A fourth of a mile behind, they commence to toot their fog horn and unless the patient farmer gives them all the graveled road, they immediately commence a din on their hellish born that will drive the gentlest horse into a frenzy of fright and then pull into the road under the horse s nose, sometimes brush- ing the hind end of the car against the horse s shoukler. Whether it is Edel Brau whiskey Portland snake poison, or the pure cussedness of the driver and his passengers. The Herald knows not But one thing we do know. Auto drivers should be forced to recognize the rights of horse drawn vehicles and to keep within a speed limit of 15 miles per hour when on county roads. And if this is not done, blood instead of oil is liable to be sprinkled on the Base Line and Section Line roads. The sooner the proper authorities look into this matter the sooner trouble will be avoided. u ’ That wife! Yes, she may be a little snappish, so would you if you had about four or five pairs of little hands all hanging to your skirts and yelling for mama at once. Have a little patience with the tired wife and mother. Take her on your lap once in a while, just as you used to do, tell her of your love and how much you appreciate her good qualities. Give her a little spend- ing money once in a while; don’t wait for her to ask for it. And. above all else, give her some of your time; take her out, intro duce her to your friends and- well, make more of a companion of her. It is only casting your bread upon the waters to come back to you a hundred fold. 0 The last issue of The Hood River News Letter contained 10 pages, 9 of which .were well filled with advertising matter and this, says Editor Bradley, is to be a regular feature of that enterprising sheet. The News Letter is one of our most valued exchanges. It is highly appre- ciated by the Herald because of its high moral standard and well edited and printed pages. It is • credit to the town it serves so well, to the state, and to the journalistic profession. W e con- gratulate our brother on the ap- preciation and liberal patronage accorded him by his people.
