Since the failure of the referendum movement again.st the Oregon Agri cultural college appropriation the work of arranging for carrying into effect the plans of improvement at that institution has been instituted. Six new buildings will be erected with a portion of the fund. There will be a four-story horticultural building, a three-story dairy building, a two- Mory addition to the pivsi'iit mining bunding, a farm mechanics building which will be furnished free by the manufacturers with several thousand dollars" worth of .fanning imple ments, a stock judging pavillion, and a number of lesscr-sizcd structures. Contracts for these buildings will be awarded in a few days. The college has an enrollment of 1777, of which 4:11 are agriculturalstudents. It will lie remembered that the legislature voted an appropriation of over $400, OflO for the college, and for awhile there were indications that an effort would b made to invoke the referen dum on the matter.
