THIRD DISfTUlCT IMIU.
The success of the two former
meeting of the Third District Fair
at Pendleton, which embraces the
counties of Umatilla aud Morrow,
has beeD the source of much en
couragement to the officers and
management.
.Stimulated by the spleudid meet
ing of last year the people in charge
this year ill exert more than usual
effort in making the third meeting
the best one yet held.
The fair this year will open Sep
tember 27 and will close on Octo
ber 2.
Four thousand dollars in cash
ay ill be distributed in premiums.
This is strictly an agricultural bo
ciety and the premiums go entirely
for exhibits connected with agricul
ture solely for the benefit of agri
cultural interests.
The Pendleton fair will be of
benefit to the farmers in the terri.
tory comprising the third district.
It not only stimu'ates pride but
impresses the importance of better
methods in agriculture in order
to grow better products of the farm.
Better methods will mean not only
better quality but larger yields
and bieser prices which will add '
to the erowfch and prosperity of
the country.
The meeting will bring the farm
era together and help to unite in
terests in agricultural pursuits.
Considerate interest is being
taken in the pieparation of the ex
hibit from Morro county. Last
year we carried off a pood share of
the honors. This year we ought
to do aa well or even better. Bat
it must be remembered that we
have strong competition in the fer
tile lands of Umatilla. Jn order
to make a good showing we must
put on our Sunday clothes and get
the best that we have. It is not
wholly a matter of pride but a bus
iLess proposition as well.
The State Fair at Salem is one
of the pioneer institutions of Ore-!
gon. The coming meeting daring;
the week of September 13-IS, will
be the forty-eighth annual one in i
the history of the organization.

this year will be of great interest.
