Even the treasury at Washington reveals within the past week or two the effects of the trade revival. The revised figures for March show that the deficit for that month was only 83,115,000, instead of the $4, 000,000 which had bepn estimated on the last day of the month, and instead of the S6.000.000 or 83,000 000,000 which had been predicted seven or eight weeks earlier. Thus the cheerful tone of the railway chiefs, the steel magnates and the other captains of industry is com municated to tbe treasury officials. All along the line the industrial and financial situation is better than had been looked for by this tiime by even the most sanguine. The treasury deficit for the year will probably pass the $100,000,000 mark, but it will stop far short of the giddy height which everybody a few months ago feared it would reach.
