Eugene surprised the people of this entire country last year by raising a great advertising fund and paying a salary of 5,000 an nually for an expert. Up to last Saturday night there had been sub scribed for tli e coming year 813,(50 1 to which will be added $1100, the total being more than a dollar and a half for every man, woman and child in the citv, and this will be used in advertising tne resources and advantages of Eugene aud Line county. What other town of 10,000 people in OregOD, Washing ton or California can match this record? Franklin P. Davis of New York was ia our city this week, Mr. Davis is manager and dole director of the noted psychologist Dr Geoi go Gilbert Bancroft, and D. Lillian Lewis, vocalist and imper sonator. Mr. Davis made arrang - ments to onng tms talented pan to our city for two entertainments Dec. 2nd and 3rd, uuder the rub pices of the Ladies' Aid Society ol the M. E. church. Dr. Bancroft will present on the first night his famous psychologi cal lecture, "Hoodoos," a scientific discourse on all psyche phenomena, a most startling as well as interest ing entertainment. On the seoond night Dr. Bau. croft will give his humorous sketch, "WheD, Whom Hnd How to Love." a musical lecture novelty and laugh producer of great magnitude. Dr. Bancroft will be ably assisted each evening by the charming singer, Miss Lewis, in a brilliant and versatile repf rtoir ol vocal and literary gems. Mr. Davis assisted the ladies on Monday in listing tickets and the results were very flattering, but owing to election day the work was postponed until some future date, when the ladies will finish listing the entire city. The funeral was conducted Mon day at the Heppner cemetery where a large number of friends witnessed the last sad rites. Fifteen carloads of potatoes will be shipped from The Cove, Union county. The Hcvivnl. The revival at the Christian church will close next Sunday even ing. Subject tonight: "Thp Sec ond Coming of Christ." There will bo the usual Sunday services and a meeting in the afternoon for members only. Next Monday evening a reception will be given by the church to those who have united with the congre gation during the levival.
