Gates, Manager Kent Commercial Com- pany. Steiwer & Carpenter, Bankers. Fossil, Oregon, May 8, 1908. E. M. Shutt, Heppner, OregOD, Dear Sir: HaviDg resided in this town for the paBt eighteen years, and hav ing been all that time engaged in active business (13 years in general rcerehandisrog and four in bank ing) I can truthfully say that since this town went dry all legitimate business has improved. A larger per cent of cash sales, in proportion to the aggregate, and many in stances of parties beiDg good pay now, whereas under the Baloon sys tem they were on the "black list." The moral tone of Bociety is much improved, and the churches are inadequate as to Beating capac ity and are being enlarged. Many non-residents are taking advantage of our reputation as to morals and 'are sendiDg their children here to school. At the coming June elect ion we are to try this question again, and we are very confident that this precinct, as well as the entire county, will go "dry." Very truly yours Geo. S. Carpenter. The above letters are from men of undisputed standing, who join all the other merchants of the dry counties in pronouncing prohibition a blessing from every standpoint. E. M. SHUTT. DR. METZLER.
