Heppner Wins Game From Eight Mile. The Hpppuer High school kids dued soother victory to their credit In"t Sunday when tbey met and defeated the Eight Mile team on the local diamond. It was not as fast a game as the oue played the week before, and the score was cot aa good, bat it was not a game for the fans to be ashamed of. There were good plays and there were bad playn, but taking all ioto consideration, it was an average game. Itbea was "right there" in the box, and had a good many strike outs to his credit when the game was over. Gay, for the visitors, also did good work bat had poor Aupport There wan no jarring in thegame, the Eight Mile boys showing tbeaa selves to be good sportsmen, and tbey were graceful losers. "Mose" Giles as umpire showed that he knows the game from A to Izzard, and his work was highly Appreciated. Baseball at Lexington. Next 8anday at Lexington prom Isps to be the best base ball game of the season, when Lexington aud Heppner cross bats. Both teams will be strengthened for this oc casion. Negotiations are now uu aer way lor a special train to ran from lieppner to accommodate al who wish to attend. There will be no game in Hepp ner next Sunday and a large crowd will go from this place. Hon. Henry Black man is in the city Mrs. James Keeney, of Peudle ton, is visiting in the city. Ed Patterson returned from Walla Walla Tuesday evening. Jake Wattenburger's sheep shearing crew of 25 men who have been shearing by mrfchinery at Echo, came in the fore part of the week having finished their work at Echo. Durinir the 27 davs they sheared they took the fleeces from 64, 150 sheep. The crew is now runnwig the Peuluud Laud & Livestock Company plant. The free shows given by Prof. Rev nolds entertainers are drawing immense crowds and judging from the frequent hearty laughe every one seems to enjoy the fun. The Professor seems to be do ing a good business and is teaching his beautiful art to dozens of people, tie will prolong his stay until Monday night. MissJesBie Britt presented her pu pils in recital Tuesday evening at tbe Commercial Club. There was a good ni7.f'i and appreciative audience present AUJhe numbers were well rendered and heartily applauded, reflecting much credit on ttie ability of both teacher and pupils. The vocal solo by Mr. White was especially well received. The pi ano solo "In Balmy Woods" by Esther Johnson was also well rendered showing a fine touch and good expression. We therefore are able to report to the Court at this time we believe all matters of a criminal nature, so far as Morrow county is concerned, are disposed of, except however, a few cases under in vestigation by ttie District Attorney. We have not made any close examin ation ot the books or records of the county for the reason we have not deemed it necessary to employ an ex pert at this timet, and withoot the aid of such a person we cannot report an to the correctness of tbe books of the different offices, but so far a! we are able to as certain the records are correctly and neatly kept. We think there ate no special recom mendations called for at this time from this body, and we only desire to suggest to the county court that we think the court house yard hack of the court house should be kent somewhat cleaner ttian it is and that stock should not be per mitted to graze in such yard on account of the injury done to the growing trees. We further recommend that the toilet room in the court house and fixtures in such rooms be cleaned up and kept clean. We have paid s visit to the hospital for the conntv poor and find the institu tion well kept and the inmates comfort ably and well providod for. We how ever, would recommend that there should be some better ventilation in one or two of the rooms. We desire to thank the court and the officrs thereof for tlfir courteous treat ment during the time of our delibera tions, and ask that we he discharged. W .
