Editor Thomas, of the Lexing
ton Wheatfield, spent several hours
in Heppner transacting business,

Dell Ward, cf Lone Rock, re
turned from Portland Tuesday
and drove to Cecil with Libbie
McBho yesterday in search of a
horse.
Mrs. P. C. Creswell and daugh
ter, Sadie, left on Monday morn
ing for Forsythe, Mont., to join
Fress, who shipped a train load of
eheep to that point for Eae Bros.
Erb Hayes left for Vale on
Tuesday morning's traiD, where be
goes in search of a location for his
sheep business. Mrs. Hayes and
children went to Portland on the
same train where they will visit
with her parents for some time.
William Collins, of Sprav, was
sentenced to serve 2i hours in the
Multnomah county jail and pay a
fine of $250 by Judge E. Wolver
ton in the United States district
court for illegal fencing in govern
ment lands in The Dalles land dis
trict. S. E. Notson received the sad
intelligence, Tuesday that his
brother, T. C. Xotson, was killed
by lightning near Hamburg, Iowa,
on Monday. Mr. Notson waa 46
years of age and leaves a wife and
six children. No further particu
lars have yet been learned.
H. V. Gates has filed on a water
right on the Matoles river, with
the intention of installing a power
plant there and generating electric
ity for the Prineville Light & Wa
ter Company, which will supply
"juice" for the whole county. It
is not known at present just when
work on the new plant will begin,
but it will probably be some time
during the coming fall. Prine

Haying is now quite general in
Morrow county. The alfalfa crop
is heavy.
The heavy rains of the past
wees nave been of great beneht to
spring crops.
E. H. Andrews left Sunday for
Ashland where he is called on ac
count of sickness of his brother-
in-law.
D. D. Hinton and son, sheep
men of the Hamilton country,
were in the city this week to sell
their wool.
R. A. Kelsay, formerly with the
Cunningham Sheep & Land com
pany was in the city yesterday.
Mrs. R. F. Hynd and children
and Miss Brown have eone to
brtland where they will spend
the summer.

John Fleming, the 6heep buyer
who has been here for several days
bargaining for all the sheep he can
get, left for Hot Lake, says the
Baker City Herald. JuBt before
leaving, a representative of the
Herald waa in conversation with
him and he stated that since Apri
20, he has shipped 365 carloads of
Oregon sheep to Forsythe, Mon
tana. Mr. Fleming hts been buy
ing in different parts of the state
and states the sheep raised in Ore
gon are first class, ne is connected
with the firm of Rae Brothers.
The reason why I have hitherto been
aole to do painting so much cheaper
than anybody else is that I am a bach
elor and do not need to make a profit
for the maintenance of a wife and
children. It ia now my duty to inform
the public that this advantage will
shortly be withdrawn from me as I am
about to be married, you will theretore

John Busick has purchased
from Jonas Bros., of the John
Day country, their big stock ranch.
Mr. Busick has purchased two
bands of ewes with tber Iambs.
There are from 2,000 to 2,500 old
sheep and about 2000 lambs. The
price, paid was $5 per head for the
old eheep and $3 per head for the
lambs. Mr. Busick also bought
1000 head of mixed lambs from
Lee Paine for $3 per head with a
o per cent cut.
Mr. Busick was formerly a Mor
row county sheep man, but sold
out and moved to St. Johns to take
life easy, but the big profit of the
sheep business is more attractive
than life in the city.
