J Napoleon's Waterloo was hardly more severe than was tbe "Water- oo,f of the lone basket ball learn and which crowned their efforts with overwhelming defeat, on last Friday night, when they met the H. C. C. in tbe local gymnasium. It was a spicey game aud void of all "unnecessary roughnese," how ever, Judge White handed down a few decisions that the Heppner boys must not play so fast, for in so doing, they were very apt to upset an lone stalwart. These decisions had a tendency to cause the Clnb boys to pay nil their at tention to basket tossing and this they did to the sum, in round numbers, of 31. While they were thus engaged the lone boys slipped in a few figures on their balance Bheet in order to show that they were not defunct and then, well, they needed thetn. They had six points when the game ended. Harley Carter (Editor) is beyond a doubt the best player in the lone aggregation and did some nice stunts in the capacity of forward. IUb team played nice ball ami every once in awhile thej' were caught doing some pretty team work. The Club boys were playing ball from the time Referee White rooted his horn until Mayor Gilliam, scorer and tinn keeper, Miu-illed out that time was up. Morgan, at center, milit as well have picketed the ball i-o far ns V,ak was con cerned, lor if the latter ever got hold of the liall l,o had it handed to him by another player. It is aid that BInke had a still M'ck the nest day caused from looking up at the ball while Morgiu juggled it. The line up was as follows: 10XE 1st Half -Jnl Half Carter I 1 P.lake 1 1 L Mallory UMallory.. 2 Moran HEPPNER 1st Half Bisbee.... 2 1 Turner.... 2 2 2 Morgan ... 2 Noble Garrigues , 2nd Half 2 12 1 2 2 2 2 2 2 2 SHOR'UUE VERT SflALL Former Clerk Crawford's Amount Cut Down Muteriulljr. A return game will be glayed at lone on Friday night of this week which promises to be a good one An excursion train will be run, leaving here at 7 o'clock p. m. and returning after the game. A big crowd will go to lone tomorrow night aud if you want to be on the list you had better hurry before E. H. Harriman calls a halt on the sale of tickets. A ladies team from lone and one fiom this city are scheduled to play basket ball soma time in the near future. ;ko. co.-si:k ki:ti rms. After Three ?loiiihi Calif ornla. Visit In Mr. and M-s. Geo. Confer faye re turned after a three months visit to dif ferent points iu California. J Mr. Cons;r reports a yery pleasant trip. Ttiey went as fr eoutri as Man hattan heaeh, stopping at Lo?Angeles, A supplementary report of the experts who examined the county books, resented at the last session of counH court, aud alto the action of the county court in not holding Mr. Ciawford responsible for trinl fees which he never collected, makes his shortage very small, thus showing a umall number of errors, espe;inl!y when it is taken into consideration the former com plicated system of book keeping, for a term of eight years. The supplementary report shows that warrrant No. 4 il was not ordered in the commisdioueis jour nal, but was ordered by the rwcuit court. Als warrant 17G3 was ordered by the circcit ourt and are perfectly regular. The county court did not hold Mr. Crawford responsible for trul feei (mounting to 142, which knocks a big hole iu the ii regularities.
