Thomson and Stsnfield have made some big purchases. Mr. Thomson visited the Bear creek and Izee country in Grant county and was also in the Silvies River country iu Harney county. They purchased 1300 head of three yetr old-steers which wtfl be taken to Butter creek to be fed on alfalfa. Messrs. Thomson & Stanfield are among tbe big feedere on Butter creek and hav a large amount of alfalfa hay, the crop in that ds trict tbis season being a heavy one. days, less than a week, to complete the deal. Mr. Combs paid $22 for two-year-old steers, $30 for three- year-oiae, ana varying prices aocording to quality, for cows. He says the stock was not in every instance of the best, but that he secured some splendid animals. He has not determined what dis position to make of the bunch yet, and may feed them. Mr. Combs it unsually both a buyer and seller, and looks at tbe market from the stand point of both. The price paid was 2.90 per bead with a 20 per cent cut. The lembs came in January and February and being of a large breed will make a choice lot for feeding. Mr. Thomson stated that these lamba were purchased for feeding which is an experi ment. To one hao ever tried feed ing lambs and the results will be watched with interest by tbe alfalfa growers of the country, The lambs will be carefully weighed before being put on the feed and when they are turned off to market will be weighed again in order to eive the question of lamb feeding a thorought test. While here he purchased 1000 ewes from the Petiland Land & Livestock Co., also 2000 ewes from Swick & Wil cox. Mr. btabier nas also pur chased 20 head of heavy brood mares. D. O. Justus this week purchas ed GOO head of mixed lambs from Geo. B. Hufford, of Butter creek. The price paid was $2.75 per head. Mr. Justus has purchased about C00O head of sheep this season. Fred Mulkey, of Lone creek brought in 750 head of mutton sheep which were purchased by Joe Hayes and shipped this week. I). iV. I-ane & Son, of Shoshone, Idaho, bought tbis week of E. F.
