Now is the time to cut down the loug grass on the back streets and make a general clean up of the city. Found Black Newfoundland puppy, white chest and two front paws white. Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Campbell, of The Dalles, are visiting Mr. Campbell's parents Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Campbell. Frank Roberts has received the hardwood lumber for his new skating rink which will be put down as fast as the carpenters can do the work. S. E. Carr, of Chicago, president of the Bank of Ileppner, and B. F. Ctilp, vice-president, of Walla Walla, were in the city this week. Asa Thomson end II. C. Thom son, of Butter creek were in the city this week. Asa Thomson was on his way to the Izee country to buy cattle. Mrs. Henry 151 ackman fell on the beach at seaside one day this week and received injury to the hip, it being necessary to come back to Portland for medical i id. Tho showers of Sunday evening accompanied by a light electrical storm cooled the atmosphere and was certainly a great relief from the long spell of hot weather. Th 2 nights are now cool and pleas ant and the extreme hot eoaoa is apparently over. Ileppner Blackman left this morning for Portland, where he will visit with his mother a few drys and will then go to Xew York to again take up cartooning and newspaper sketch work. Mr. Blackman is a young artist cf un doubted ability and goes to Xew York with bright proepeete. Ike Howard, of Gallowey, was in the city Saturday. Miss Lilian Cochran was a pas senger this mornirg for Seattle. R. F. Hynd of Heppner, was transacting buisness at the Capitol yesterday. Salem Statesman, 9tb. The Crook County Journal re ports crops of both hay and grain to be in good shape in Crook county. Martin Reid was in from Reid's saw mill Saturday. John Conser, a pioneer resident of Linn county, died at bis home Dear Albany, Monday, at the age of 65 years. Paralysis was the cause of death. Deceased was born in Illinois and crossed the plains to Oregon in ' 1818. He was one of the wealthy, substantial citizens of the county, owning a large body of the best farm land. Otto Metschan, manager of the Palace hotel of this city received word this week from Phil Met- schan, Jr., owner of the Palace hotel of Heppner, that the hotel has been sold to E. C. Mrs. Juukin was born near Stayton in Marion county, Oregon. Mr. and Mrs. Junkin were married at Gold Beach in 1871. They came to Morrow county in 1881, settling in the Eight Mile country. About four years ago they moved to Wheeler oounty in the vicinity of Spray.
