M., where great damage lias been wrought bv daily earthquakes since July !!, during which peiiod not an hour has passed without one or more eaithquakes. The center of the disturbance is .10 miles long by about 178 wide, running from the Ladrone Mountains southeast through Socorro, San Antonio and San Marcial. This side the belt the shock have been hardly felt. Each one it preceded by a loud rumbling like heav thunder, which can be heard approach ing fromthe northweet before it reacbet Socorro. Senor Baca, ot Socorro, until recent District Attorney, is in the city with hi family. He says people are leaving oi every train, and those who cannot ride on the railroad are leaving by wagon About 2000 persons are camping out ii tents, and no one dares to go indoors Practically every residence end bnsi news block in the town has been ap preciably damaged. There has been much distress among the people wh are camping in the open, as heavy rains have fallen in the last two days, one being the heaviest for 50 years. Most of the people are going to El Paso, al though many are coming to Albuquer que and Santa Fe. The shocks eenerally occur a short, etiarp jerks, the giound seeming to slip violently. Fulton snaps his fingers defiantly at Secretary Hitchcock, of the Depart ment of the Interior. According to the Senator, the Secre tary can go as far as he likes and he wi.l not distu'b the equilibrium of Ore gon's only representative at Washing ton. The Senator is not afraid of the consequences. That Secretary Hitchcock is angry at the Oregon Senator, is generally known. 1: came about through Senator Fulton making a criticism of the Secretary re garding the latter's attitude on public improvements affecting this state, in a ie-ent interview in The Evening Tele gram. The Senator said that Hitch cock was in his dotage. Now Secretary Hitchcock has un bottled his wrath against Senator Fulton and wants revenge. What is more, according to report, Hitchcock: will be salibfied with nothing less than an indictment against Fulton. It has been freely intimated that Hitchcock is so wroth he has summoned W. J. Barnes, the Government detective, for the express purpose of investigating the record of Senator Fulton, in the hope of unearthing something npon which to lay the foundation for his revenge. And this is what causes Senator Ful ton to smile. The Senator doesn't care. Furthermore, he is quite willing to have Secretary Hitchcock take a miser oscope a 1 go over his trail. "There is no occasion for Secretary Hitchcock to be exciteJ over my re mark," declared Senator Fulton. He had just finished his dinner, was smok ing a cigar and could look at Hitch cock's threats complacently. ''I simply told the truth. He has trouble with all the Western Senators, and there are some who do not enter his office from one year's end to the other." "I ran scarcely believe that the Sec rotary said be would look into my record in th'e hope of finding something wrong, although it is quite possible that be would, for he is a nan who has a vio lent temper when he encounters opposition. Insofar be investigating my record, he can do so to his heart's de sire.
