He otores the hay in luge corncribs, the bottoms of which are e'evated several feet above the ground with more or lees open spaces, and the sides of the cribs are also open. The cribs are large enough to store a single cutting of alfal a from eleven acres of ground and only cover the bottom of tbe cribs to a depth of 4 or 5 feet. Tbe bay ia apread over tbe whole crib bottom in an even layer and not tramped, but left light and loose as it ia thrown in. Tbe eeend cutting of alfalfa is placed above (be first, and the third above the second, until tbe crib ia fall to tbe top. For three seasons now Mr. Berry has pot up the hay from this field in tbe manner de scribed above and each winter be baa baled the bay and sold it at an average ot 12 per ton above the market price of good alfalfa bay. The hay stored and cared in this way baa been greener in color and of better quality than alfalfa put up by tbe usual methods. Experiment stations have cot given as much information on bay curing as they should. There are several methods of haymaking and each is adapted to certain conditions. Alfalfa bay has been pat up too green in Texas, acd tbe reputation of it bae suffered accordingly. Here is and excellent field for investigation by our experi ment stations. Washington, June 20 President Koosevelt is preparing to go to Oysier Bav this evening if congieas adjourns He l:ae let it he understood that he de files a quiet glimmer at his Oyster Bay home, lie has experienced the most strenuous winter since lie became prcsi dent and is in need of rest and refla tion. The president has a faculty of disposing with jireat facility of an ix menee amount of work, but he is not made of whalebone or 6teel springs The tremendous amount of business he hos had to dj during the past winter and spring ha9 worn on him greatly. Those who have come into contract with him during the pst two or three weeks have noted with something akin to apprehecsion that the president manifests a degree of nervousness, which is new to him. His mentality is not less strained by tbe strain which be is undergoing, but be is a trifle abrupt than is bis wont. Intimate friends have noted a change in th president and have urged him to get a genuine rest this summer. Tbe president has agreed and will er deavor to secure a systematic rest while he re mains at Oyster Bay. Last summer tbe peace conference be tween tbe representatives of Russia and Japan occupied a great deal of the presi dent's attention during July and August. In fact matters connected with tbe commission extended into September. The strain at that time was not generally appreciated. The story of bis participation in the affairs of tbe peace conference was never adequately presented to the public, and it may be very many years before it is. It is sufficient now to state that be had scarcely a week's relaxation from the strain during the whole of last summer. Notice.
