Mr. Herren reports that business is good at Spray. Mrs. J. V. Crawford was called to Prescott, Wash., Wednesday morning, on account of serious ill ness of a brother. Mrs. Crawford will visit with relatives and friends for some time before returning. Judge Ayers has appointed Wm. Ayers as the guardian of Martin Anderson. Mr. Anderson is an old resident of Morrow county. Owing to his advanced age hia mind is very feeble. Upon com plaint of Marshal Rasmus, the matter was taken up by Judge Ayers and it was deemed best to appoint some one to look after the welfare of the unfortunate man. Pete Bremmer was in from Eight Mile yesterday. Mr. Bren ner states that wheat in the Eight Mile countrv is looking extra good. There is every prospect that wheat will be better this season than for years. Mr. Bren ner says that he believes the yield this season will almost equal the bumper crop of '91, when wheat in the Eight Mile country yielded from 40 to io bushels to the acrp. Owing to the late rains, harvest will be a little later than usual this season. Heppner will celebrate the 4th of July as it has never been cele- biated before in the history of our town, which celebration will draw an immense crowd to our city. Our streets, alleys and vacant lots are in a very poor condition to entertain any one. The streets are full of rocks, alleys strewed with tin cans and all sorts of rubbish and the vacant lots are in most deplorable condition, being covered with thistle, foxtail and everv sort of foul weed. These lots should be cleaned and cleared of these undesireable things, as they will be used by the public for loafing places. tS JI VUL ULLlSt IIOXOR. Ellis as Judge of tbe Sixth Judicial District of tbe State of Oregon is draw ing to a close, and, Whereas, tbe attorneys of the City of Heppner as a body desire at this time to give expression to the high regard in which tbey bold the retiring Judge, Therefore, be it resolved: That we review with pleasure the years of our practice in Judge Ellis' Court. In Judge Ellis we have always found a man courteous, generous and fair to the members of the bar and transcendently just and impartial to litigants before bis tribunal. Resolved : That in leaving tbe bench of this District for the balls of Congress Judge Ellis carries with him the high est esteem and the heartiest good will of the attorneys of Morrow county. Resolved further: That a copy of these resolutions be spread upon the records of this court, and that the original thereof be tendered to the Honorable W. U. Monday, Jnly 9, has been definitely decided npon by tbe Federal authorities as the date npon which tire land-fraud trials will begin. Announcement of this fact was made last night by Judge Wolverton, who will exchange benches at the time specified with Judge Hunt, of Montana, and the latter will preside cases. It has not been decided officially as to which esse shall have precedence, and until Congress adjourns there ia no way of compelling Binger Hermann to go to trial, as it is understood that he intends to stand upon bis prerogative in ibat re spect and decline to tace criminal pro ceedings wbila still a member of Con gress. After adjournment of the body his term wiil bare expired, and nothing daring tbe pendency oi the land-fraud will then stand in the war of bringing the ex-Commissioner of the tieneral Land Office into court in response to one of the numerous indictments end ing against him.
