Representative Williamson, of Oregon, and Repre sentative Jones, of Washington, who are working together in the interest of The D llee-Celtto caring have decided that the interests of that project will hest be Reived by having it made a continuing contract. From now on ihey will exert their influence to bring about this result If The D dies canal is made e, continuing contract it will be tHken out of the hands of the rivers and harbors committer and, instead of be ing appropriatrd for in the rivers and harbors bills, will receive appropriations eaoh year in the sundry ciyil bill. It is agreed that it is rmre desirable to have this project made a continuing co-tract than it is to secure the max imum appropriation recommended by the engineers, namely, $500,000. If it will be any inducement, both William son and Jones will cons nt to a material reduction in the appropriation, pro vided Congrens will make it a continu ing contract. There is only one continuing contiact in Oregon at the present time the pro ject for the improvement of the mouth of the Columbia River. The mouth of the river will be cared for this year, re gardless of hat becomes of the river and harbor bill. It may not be possi ble to secure sufficient money in the sundry civil to comp'ete the jetty at the mouth of the river, but enough will be provided to continue the work through out the coming fiscal v?ar.
