The meeting was held Tuesday owing to the fact that Monday was a If gnl holiday. Mayor Gilliam and Councilmen Noble, Cohn, Quaid and Warnock were present. The petitions of Pail Metscban, Jr., and McAmee aud Donnelly for retail liquor licenses were granted. Aa ordinance to regulate Sun day closing was read first time. She will visit friends in Brownsville before returning home. Rev. J. Mount has abandoned the intention of going to Harrison, Idaho. The minister who was to come here and take Mr. Mount's charge was unable to come, aud the members of the church here pre vailed on Mr. Mount to stay. Miss Via Hart is visiting her parents at Hilgard. County court is now in session at the court house. John Ilarbke, of lone, was in the city yesterday. m. 8. Coniaall, of Butter creek, was in the city yesterday. Miss Cattan returned Fridaj' evening from Walla Walla. Ben Holbrook, of lone was reg istered at the Palace yesterday. Attorney C. E. Red field returned MondajT evening from Portland. R. F. Hynd is now engaged as assistant cashier at the Bank of Heppner. School Superintendent S. I Stratton, of lone, was in tne city yesterday. Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Brown of the Willows, were Heppner visitors this week. sirs. G. w. "Phelps, who has been visiting in Pendleton and Hilgard, returned Saturday. Mms Mabel Avers came up from Portland, Tuesday and is visiting relatives and friends in the citv. Dr. V. E. WeLimrd, formerly of Albmy, anived in Heppuer Wed nesday and will be associated with Dr. Iliggs. W. R Pruyn who has been vis iting in Portland and Hillsboro, for the past 10 days has returned to this city. Mr. and Mrs. David Ramsay, of Elleusburg, wash., are the guests of Mr. and Mrs. K. F. I.lcliten thai Have Settled Deficiency. The shortage in the accounts of the late M. Lichtenthal, countv treasurer, has all been made good by the bondsmen. While none of the claims against the estate have been settled, the bondsmen were anxious to get everything straightened out so far aa they were concerned with the county and have settled the short age of $1680 in full at the earliest possible time. The bondsmen are Geo. Conser, Ed Day, N. A. Kelly and Henry Padberg. With the standing of such men as were on the board, there has not been the least uneasiness about the shortage, however, Messrs. Conser, Day, Kelly and Padberg were anxious to get the matter settled up and are glad that it is off of their hands. HORN. McALISTER December 30, 1904, to Mr. and Mrs. Ray Mc Alister of Lexington, a nine pound boy. HILL December 31, 1904, to Mr. and Mrs. V. Hill, a boy, weight 9 1 pounds. Mrs. Willard, of Walla Walla, who has been visiting at Judge T. W. Ayers' and Mrs. Wm. Ayers', returned to her home Monday. John Scott, of lone, is now in the county jail awaiting the action of the District Attorney. Soott is charged with assault with a dead, ly weapon. In an altercation he struck a barber by the name of Patterson over the head with a poker. There is said to be a strong case against him.
