McKnight left Yesterday for Vale, Oregon, in here they will locate. Mr. and Mrs. McKnight have many friends in Ileppner who re gret very much to see them go. Mrs. L. E. Cohn will sell her entire stock of millinery, pattern hats, frames, plumes, velvets and ribbons at coot. Also reduction on suits, cloaks, etc. A new line of veils, including mourning yeils, Rev. II. S. Shangla, presiding elder of the Pendleton district, preached at the M. E. church, South, la-t Sunday morning and evening. The congrega tion in the evening was very large. Congressman Williamson, who hap been attending the irrigation congrept at El Paso, reached home Wednesday in time to spend Thanksgiving with his family. He has been so busily engaged in preparing for bis departure for Wash ington .tonight that even reporters dared not request an interview. He will plop over at Pendleton until tomorrow, when he will be joined by his daughter, Miss Jennie, who fills the position of private Bocretary to her father. There will be no preaching at the M E. church, South, next Sunday, but after next Sunday the regu'ar weekly services may be expected. L E. Vivian, of Rawlins Wyoming, was in the city this week. Mr. Vivian was here for the purpose of buying young ewes. As everything for sale in his class of stock has been cleaned up, Mr. Vivian could not get what he wanted and has returned to his home. He will return in the spring. A very pleasant birthday dinner was enjoved at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. W. P. Dutton last Wednesday, the 23:d alt. Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Conser were the invited guests. The affair was given in honor of the birthdays of Messrs. Conser and Dutton, both com ing on the same day. Mr. Conser was 50 and Mr. Dutton was 52 years of age on the 23rd ult. Their many friends wish them many more happy returns of the anniversary of their birth. Ti.e work of laying pipes to furnish water for the Ileppner cemetery lias progressed in a very satisfactory man ner under the management of Geo Conner. The pipe for the transmission of water from the well of the Light & Water Co. is now ad in position and practiol'y finisLed. The excavating tor the reservoir i all completed. The wosk of connecting the reservoir will not be commenced until spring opens in order to make a better job. Everything will be in first class older by the time the w iter is needed next year. Griffiu, of lone, was in Heppner, Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Phil Metschan have returned from a visit to Port land. County School Superintendent S. L Stratton was up from lone this week. C. W. Lowe lost two valuable doga this week by being poisoned. Poisoned meat was thrown to the dogs while at home at Mr. Lowe's plaoe. The dogs were both well bred Collies. They were not only highly valued for their breeding, but for pets as well. As a matter of principle no criminal is worse than the dog poisoner. Holiday of i Mr.r.i Mrs. V. R. Ellis, of Pendleton, is visiting frieuds and relatives here while Judge Eilis is holding court. Geo. Turner, of Lexington, is in the city. Mr. Turner is suffering with a severe attack of rheuma tism. Mrs. J. VV. Mount underwent a serious surgical operation yester day. Drs. Iliggs and Kistner be ing the physicians. She is doing well. Will Rennett, who has been visiting iu Portland, has returned to this city and is again at his post of duty in the First National bank. Harry Bartholomew has a trac tion eDgine hauling a number of plows on his Butter creek ranch. Mr. Bartholomew will put in a large acreage of wheat this sea son. Mr. and Mrs. John Zollinger left yesterday morning for Weiser, Idaho, where they will make a short visit. They will return to Heppner and from here will go to California to spend the winter. Rev. J. W. Mount has resigned his work as pastor of the Baptist church in this city. Rev. Mount has been called to a charge at Harrison, Idaho. Rev. L. W. Russell, of Martin, Tenn., has been called to the work of the church here. The masquerade ball at Roberts opera house on Thanksgiving night, under the management of Jake Wattenburger and Ed Hale, was a great success. The attendance was large and there were many handsome and comic costumes. Miss Sadie Ganigens wrs awarded a prize for having the finest ladies cos tume.
