Our merchants have enjoyed a line holiday trade. Jack Clark is visiting among friends here this week. Dave Brown is visiting relatives in the Willamette valley. A movement ia on foot to build a church near Henry Gay's. Mrs. James Brown was taken quite sick Tuesday morning. Frank Beymer and wife are vis iting at Mrs. E. A. Beymers this week. II. A. Nichols and family went t ) Waitsburg, Monday on a two weeks' visit. Several of our young people at tauded the ball at lone, last Thurs d ly night. A revival meeting will be com menced at the Methodist church next Sunday. Sylvanus Wright and family have been visiting at V. R. Muuk era for several days. The football team will give an entertainment at the Congregation al church New Year's eve. J. A. Ausburn, ofllornick, Iowa, is visiting relatives here. He is a nephew of Mrs. J. T. McMillan. Charles Beymer returned from Wyoming last Wednesday' evening to visit his children and mother. Miss Emma Turner will not re turn to college at Milton as her eyes are not strong enough for the work. The boys serenaded Mr. and Mrs. George Broadley and Mr. and Mrs. Shelby Lee, "Wednesday evening. Thos. Nichols is having more trouble with his eyou. lie has hopes of a speedy recovery under present treatment. Leslie Leach and family came down from the mountains Wed nesday. They will leave for the Sound next week. The Christmas tree and enter tainment at the Methodist church last Wednesday evening were the m-ans of entertaining a good sized crow in a highly pleasing way. The tree was tastefully decorated and loaded with many handsome and valuable presents. The pro gram was well carried out. The Tiff ?! rrwfrrttr" muaic was especially good. Just before time for the entertainment to begin, Mr. Shelby Lee and Mies Hattie Reaney, accompanied by Mr. Erank Parker, as groomsman, and Miss Trannie B.irnett, as bridesmaid, entered the church. Miss Dona Barnett played the wed ding march, liev. E. C. Adking, of Heppner, pronounced the words that made the happy couple one. Mr. Lee is one of our successful young ranchmen, and ia highly respected by all the people, of the community. Miss Beauey is a daughter of our fellow-citizen, An drew Reaney. Few young ladies have enjoyed a wider circle of friends than has Miss Reaney. May these young people find a full measure of joy in their wedded life is the wish of ye correspondent. CO.ll, Fit OH 0 4 Another l.nrtff Scum Opened at Willow Creek Hi net. Miners have opened up another Jare c al seam at tunnel No. 4 at the Willow creek mines. The coal is of very fine quality and the measure ia ahout six feet in thickness. I). A. Herron brought down about 500 pouuds of this coal Monday, which is dow on exhibition. Kxmnina'ion of the accounts of the ift'e Auditor and I'olice Judge, Henry E. Nelpon, show that he was short about $5000. His defalcations cover a period of five or six years, and were the result of a thorough system of warrant raising. The Auditor bought warrants for local buyers, paying cash when claims were presented. After wards he would draw the warrants, pay able to beater, in increased amounts. Experts are at work on the books, and it is believed the shortage will be found to reach fully sfllOOO. II is bondsmen will be held for amounts stolen from 1806 to 1902. A few warrants thus fraudently raised were presented to the city treasurer this year. The discovery has created a sensation the late Auditor having enjoyed the unbounded confi dence of the people. The city's loss will be small. E. E. Lyons has been arrested at Ashland for horse stealing. Al ready 50 head of stolen horses have been traced to his transac tions. It is claimed that the salt trust has. been broken and that a re ceiver will be sought. Auction Sale of Household floods. F., is making big preparations for the dedica tion of the new hall which will occur on Wednesday, January 7 Three linkers will be in attendance from The Dalles, Pendleton, lone, Ilaidman and other places. The dedication ceremonies will take place in the afternoon and in the even ing there will be a grand banquet for the members of the order that rests upon the grand principles of friendship, love and truth. This will be ao event to be remem bered in the history of Oddfellowship in Morrow county. The beautiful stone building erected at a cost of over $:0,()0 by Willow Lodge No. Oil, is a lasting monumeut to the enterprise of Willow iodge. Two Children Drowned. St. Louis, Dec. 28. While coasting down the levee on to the ice formed along the river 6hore opposite Olive street tonight, Mary Galleano, ag edlo, and Agnes CafTegata, aged 17, broke through the ice and were drowned. Thressa Kasimo, aged 14, also plunged into the liver, but was rescued. The hotly of Mary Galleano has not been re covered. A Good Recommendation.
