The people of Oregon, Washington and Idaho ars vitally interested in the movement for the improvement of the Upper Columbia river and its important tributary, the Snae. Kfforts to induce congress to order the removal of the obstructions fiom the navigation of thei-e strsams have frequently been made, but this time there ie a chance that a comprehensive ystem of im provement will be instituted. An espe cial iffort is being made to have the river opened along its entire navigable length in time for the Lewis and Clark Exploration Centennial of UMi-Ot), which is to be celebrated by an exposi tion at Portland in l'AKi, which promises to be the moat extensive and interesting afiair of its kind next to the St. Louis world's fair of liKW.
