Emmer is said to have several advantages over ordinary wheat, and on that account may re place the latter to a large extent in the Northwest It 6tands drouzbt well, resists cold, makes well-filled heads, and holds its kernels firmly, so that they are not scattered by the wind or in harvesting. The report of the United States assay office at Boie, Idaho, shows that in 19 ", the state produced a total of $1S,23G.H0 worth of gold, silver and lead. The mineral yiel j was equivalent to 5112 for every person in the state. This does not take into account any of the sums due it from agriculture or otht-r pursuits. This would seem that the people of Idaho are prosperous. The oil boring machinery for the South ern Oregou Oil Company, of Ashland, has been received. The machinery weighs 17 tons, and includes a .tfvtioiBe power boiler and '.'3-horse power engine, making a complete standard rig. A large amount of steel casing haa been on hand for some time and work haa been going on for several days in constructing the derrick, which haa reached a height of 50 feet. The location of the first well to be laired is a mile and a half north east of Ashland, ou the north side of Bear Creek.
