IO reo O If each of us would abstain from th row ing tin can s and w aste papers in the alleys and em pty lots, th e ap p earan ce of th e neigh borhood would be greatly improved. It’s a m ighty fine th in g to advocate buying a t hom e, b u t the w age-earner w ith the sh ru n k en pocketbook is going to spend his money w here it will buy th e m ost. A fter all, th e secret of su c cess in buying at hom e is to m eet com petition. T he policy w on’t win out any o th e r way. When you get a good m an u n der a tw o -y ear c o n tract, one who does more and b etter w ork than anyone else ever did for you be fore, w hat do you do a t the end of th e tw o years? Do you dis charge th a t m an or do you offer him a n o th e r c o n tra c t? Use your head when you thin k politics just as you use it w hen you think business. T h ere’s a little bit of so m ething in the good-and faithful-servant argum ent. LOOKS LIKE A TAME CAMPAIGN. The decision of P resident Wilson to “sta y on th e job" in W ash ington, during these troublesom e tim es of w arring nations, will commend him to th e good judgm ent of citizens generally and will place the president a notch higher in th e h e a rts of his countrym en. “America is g re a te r th an any p arty ,” says the president, th e re fore l e has refused to tak e th e stum p in th e in te re st of th e Demo cratic party during this fall’s cam paign. The cam paign prom ises to be a tam e affair for th e reason th at everyone is reading war, talking w ar, th in k in g w ar. Even Col. Itoosevtit can n o t get a patient hearing a t th is time. It is hoped, however, th e people th ro u g h o u t the co u n try will not become so interested in th e E uropean w ar th a t th ey will forget th a t beyond all else th e m ost im p o rtan t th in g for them to do a t the polls In Novem ber will be to vote th e ir confidence in President W ilson’s wisdom and his adm inistration by voting for m en for th eir representatives in congress who will be in h earty accord with th e adm inistration and who can be depended upon to not a n ta g o nize the president in his adm inistration of peace and constructive legislation.
