Council met in regular session last Monday evening with Mayor VanOrsdel in the chair and the balance o f the city officials pres ent except Councilmen Sibley and Fenton. Attorney W. L. Tooze appear ed before the council and request ed, as a representative o f the Commercial club, that the city should appropriate the sum of $37.50 each month to apply on the salary o f our band leader. Mr. Tooze made an eloquent plea for the appropriation, stating the worth of the band to the city, and that they could only be kept to gether by a salaried and efficient leader. Gorkhe moved to grant the request, but Hayter and Bar- oer opposed, and the motion was withdrawn, and on motion of Barber laid over. On motion o f Hayter the street committee was empowered to purchase certain oil that the Clarke-Henry company have. The quarterly report o f the au- litor was on motion o f Barber referred to thefinance committee.
