See th a t it is observed: and the labor employed in m ak in g it “ It shall lie unlawful for any person to pay another for any loss or ifamage due to attendance at the polls, or in registering, or for the expense of transporation is as well paid as th a t on th is side of to or from the polls. the bordor.— Johnstow n D em ocrat. “ N o person shall pay for personal service to he perform ed on the dav of any election, lor any purpose connected therew ith, except for the hiring of person, W ith Roosevelt w ritin g alm ost whose sole duty is to act as challengers, and watch the count of official ballots. “ No person shall buv, sell, give or provide anv political badge, b u tton,or other daily letters for p u b lication in his be insigna to he worn at or aliout the polls on the day of any election, and no such half, with all th e cabinet officers ne political badge, button or other insigna shall lie worn a t or about th e polls on glecting th e ir sworn d u tie s in look any election day. “ It shall be unlawful for any person a t any place on the day of any election to ing after the in te rests of th e several ask, solicit or in any m anner try to induce or persuade any voter on such election day to vote for or refrain from voting for any candidate or the candidates or tick d ep artm e n ts, and w ith th e e n tire hacking in every sta te of th e federal et of any political party or organization." The hist section above quoted would prohibit the banners, heretofore common, officers, yet today, th ree days before bearing the legend, "V ote the Straight Republican T icket.” In fact, this sec tion prohibits all political activities on election day which would in any m anner th e election, republican p a rty m a n a tend to influence a voter as to how he should vote. gers are so afraid th a t th e p re sid en t’s big baby will n o t l>e elected th a t they are alm ost fran tic, and are crying for THE TRUTH ABOUT PANICS, funds to tu rn th e B ryan tide. Republican papers all over the United States are trying to again fool the people with the old panic scare, and make them believe that if Bryan is elected another mon ey collapse and consequent hard times may be expected. The average voter, who reads and thinks, has been fooled by that old cry too much to any longer put any faith in such foolish assertions, but as there are yet some who al low themselves to be blindly led bv their party politicians, we here append the true record of the country tor the last 30 years as far as panics are concerned. Dating from 1870 the panics that have beset the nation are here given and one does not have to be of particularly bright mind to see that the Democratic party nas not been responsible for nor allied with any majority of them, in-fact the very op posite is the case, as five of them happened under repub lican administration and only one under democratic. 1873—Under Grant, republican. 1878—Under Hayes, republican. 1884—Under Arthur, republican. 1890—Under Harrison, republican. 1890—Under Cleveland, democrat. 1907—Under Roosevelt, republican. With this undeniable showing of facts, how it is that anyone can allow themselves to be beguiled passeth under standing. The record of the two parties is there in plain, cold facts. That it is not a good snowing for the Republi can party with all their great brag of the only prosperity makers, cannot be denied, yet they have the supreme gall to continue to speak of their record as beyond reproach. Out upon such boasting. O ur K. E. W illiam s is said to have provided $3000 o u t of th e $l(M)J sta te cam paign funds. He is the hoy to get the dough, all rig h t, even if lie will not be able to m ake good on the votes. D uring the last day or two prior to th e election it m ay be expected th a t republican p arty m anagers will spring all sorts of canards on th e u n su sp ect ing voters, when it is too late to be refuted. T h is is an old tric k and one which should n o t have any w eight, b u t it som etim es does. All th eir tria ls to get th in g s com ing th e ir way, h a \lu g so far proved futile, th e leaders arc g e ttin g desperate and will go to m ost any len g th to gain th e ir ends.
